I've been lurking beer crew threads off and on since the original. Weird, feels like I know the regular posters personalities. Michigan brah here, aka malty ipas n ****ty overrated founders and bells make up a great deal of my craft beer consumption. Rite guise? Fleshie? Fugi? Not srs. Sorry about the tl:dr. I've only had the Statement and it was good, but too sweet for me to thoroughly enjoy. I'm trying to get blackberry sec; my detroit friend said he was going there, then he got there and saw they didn't open till 4. Ghay.

Can't wait. NIPAC is 2/14 so yes, I will kill all B Brownses and Boneyard shyt. Hopefully Megafauna will be back as well.
You like sour Pina Coladas.
Actually, it was more like that Willy Wonka gum in the ghay movies (and I assume book). In like three distinct stages, it started sour, went into pineapple, then finished with coconut.
Head Shake is amazing and should hit their taps very soon. Ill be sure to fill a growler for you. All the growlers I picked up are spoken for
Ya, there's something wrong with their water I think. I've never had the bombers, but all their beers have this sorta stale faint metallic flavor.

De Garde Peach Bu, Imperial Peach Bu, Beaucoup Desay, and Stone Bu. Additionally, Fen Tao, I think V013 is peach and/or apricot, peach funker, Commons creme de Peche, Peche Fermier, Freetail Peche'cus, New Glarus Wild Peach, Farm to Face, Rum La Tache with Peaches, and Halia are just a few off the top of my head.

Wasn't overly impressed with Fen Tao.
I had some crazy offers for it, but I was like "nah I should really try this, its gunna be awesome"
When I drank it, it was good, but maybe I had just hyped it up too much in my mind.
no idea what any of the rest taste like. i do not possess these whale hunting abilities that you do.

Beaucoup might be my favorite "easier beer to get" beer of 2014, just slightly behind Funky Gold Mosaic due to it's distribution.

It was fair, and I don't like Peach brews or Blue Moon in general. If I'm gonna drink peach, Back Forty offers a pretty fantastic one.

homebrew bros, at what temps do you usually let your IPAs/pale ales ferment at? let's say you are using US-05/1056
-
^cali ale yeast is very forgiving. ******t temps should generally begin around 60 and be raised to 66 by day 5 or so. By day 7 you can usually raise to 68.
Ferm temps are arguably the biggest factor in making quality beer. I highly recommend getting a ranco controller and adding a thermowell to your fermentor.

^^^This. I noticed significant change in overall quality and consistency once we put an STC on our fermentation chamber (chest freezer).

This.
We try to start as close to 60 as possible. Sometimes we're impatient and pitch at 62-63, but whatever.
We've been giving it a day to kick out that peak fermentation phase (05/04 seem to work quick), and then raising it by 2 degrees every following day until we're around 70.
-
Above. Temperature in general has among the largest effect on beer; fermentation, storage, and even drinking temp.

Picked up a 6'er of Divine Reserve 15. Will be drinking it tonight.

Srs bidnass question about someone who hasn't a fukking clue about bidnass. Myself and one of the other Beer Jerks had a remarkable epiphany the other day and came up with a phenomenal beer/brewery/brewpub idea. The question is, do any of you ****gits know how to go pandering for investors outside of bank loans? We are well-connected to the local beer scene, however that's about the extent of our connections. He's more tech savvy and I'm more "I wish I was born in the 50s" but still have the brain capacity over him lol.

Kickstarter brah!!!! Semiserious or not, build a business model and plan out to 5 yrs. Find people with deep pockets who are looking for an investment. They don't necessarily have to be beer ****s like y'all. Start to investigate possible sites of said project and cost of new vs used equipment.
-
thx guise-defintely in the market for a chest freezer-it'll be nice to finally be able to keg, control ferm. temps and cold crash.. lately I've just been using a cool brewing bag, rotating frozen water jugs around the carboy, using a fermometer as my temp gauge-too much hastle monitoring everything.

Ya, used equipment definitely. A local brewery has a 7 or 20bbl system (forgot) and it cost them what apparently a new 1.5bbl system runs.
Where does one find these deep pocket ass holes looking for investment? Shyt idk

Yes, and yes.
#1 - don't do it. There are a million breweries. stop it.
#2 - rich old****s. nothing to do with their money, and they all like beer.
#3 - did i mention there are a million breweries?
#4 - plan a healthy contingency fund
#5 - organic marketing > desperate try-hard marketing
#6 - actually have a good product
(yes serious, yes this is what I've learned from watching brewers in the industry)
Most brewers get backing from either parents, old****s, IT geeks with tons of cash, or previous jobs that paid 6-figures. Kickstarter is a joke, as there are thousands of brewery startups on there already. Crowdsourcing sucks -- just get dorky/old people with money, who like beer, to invest 1-2% in a startup.
A beginner brewery is just as simple as a production spot and distro/liquor license. I'm not sure what zoning laws are like out there, but if need be, consider "unicorporated" territory. Brewing from a garage is ideal; as you don't have to pay a second mortgage on your commercial spot.
An electric 1 bbl system can be had for a few thousand. Commercial kegs go as low as $60 for a sixth bbl, or even $90 for a "factory second" half bbl.
Selling kegs can build your name locally, but is slow income. Taproom is key. Talk to local brewers, and see if any of them have info on the old spot they started at. Getting a place that's registered as a brewery or taproom already will save you from having to pay the city to license it and come out and inspect, etc. I would consider starting in a small scummy area, with just a taproom, and letting the quality of beer do the organic marketing for you.
but that's just what I've seen here. I'm by no means a professional.

Pretty much your standard RIS. Not sure why everyone is going crazy over this beer. Glad I tried it, but I wouldn't want more than a pint or two. DFW on the other hand has been making exciting stouts. Lakewood Temptress (mint chocolate, coffee, bba variants) and Community is killing it with Legion/BBA Legion.

For me it's a nostalgia thing in a way. My first introduction to something better was DR5. Hoping it was because it was a great beer and not just because I was a beer noob trying a RIS for the first time. But I'm also prepared for disappointment.
But go a head and talk it up that it's the bombest RIS ever. Trade for whalez all day.

And then at least there's that. Pretty tasty for a SA becomes exciting around these parts.
