Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Muh Triceps

When I'm doing weigh lifting or push ups my triceps are usually the first thing to go. They never get tired. It's just that I feel uncomfortable around that region so I end up shopping. Is it bends? Do I have to power through this? Because it kinda makes me hate doing anything that uses them. It...

Question about deadlifts.

So I found out that your shoulders should be behind the bar when deadlifting, but when I bring my shoulders behind the bar, but when I bring my shoulders back, my hips sink. Yet, I was told that your hips should be high during a deadlift. What should I do? Is this just a mobility issue?

3x5 vs higher reps?

Soo, Im still weak, but the results I'm getting from a 3x5 doesnt feel like they're matching the work I put in. I mean.. strength, yes, but muscle mass isn't great. After seeing lots of YouTube videos they all suggest upping the volume and continuing the progressive overload. Is there any...

Upper Back/Back Rounding On Deadlift (New Lifter)

Hello, I have been into fitness for around two years now (some weight training, mostly conditioning, currently 16 y/o), and yesterday was my first attempt deadlifting. Pain in quads/hips at bottom of squats?

When I come out of the bottom of a squat, I feel an uncomfortable pull at the top of both of my quads. It's been happening for a few weeks and it hasn't gone away, and it gets progressively more uncomfortable as I increase weight. What should I do? Would a foam roller help? I'm still relatively new...

Do squats really work calves and hamstrings?

I've looked at a couple of other threads, and I'm still not getting it. All I see in a squat is an exercise that works glutes and quads. The way I look at it, you can't say that the downward part of a pull up is a tricep exercise just because you're straightening the arm - it's just a...

Trying to open up and stretch out my back properly due to some tightness issues, so I’ve tuned to bridging. However for whatever reason I can’t seem to get my palms anywhere near flat the way everyone does when doing these, so I just plant with my knuckles. I honestly can’t see how this would...

What standing lifts should u NOT lock knees for ?

So far I forgot that u shouldn't lock your knees when doing OHP, what about curls, raises ? For them I always locked my knees like normal standing. I don't lock my elbows for OHP or raises. Sometimes doing curls I don't go all the way down, that is if I'm only doing 1 side tho

Push-Up Form vs Bench Press Form

Hey, guys. I'm new to the community and still learning about a lot of this stuff. But this is one thing I haven't been able to find an answer on yet. exercise theory: volume = sets x reps

if this theory is true.. 225 x 5 reps x 5 sets = 135 x 14 reps x 3 sets. I hear about anything passed 12 reps is "muscle endurance" but what about calisthenics? its been proven that you can build muscle with high reps with bodyweight movements such as the pull-up or push-up wouldn't this apply to...

ohp on SL 5x5

Hey guys, I'm currently bulking and i'm on stronglifts 5x5. The author of the program suggests that you increase the weight on ohp by 2.5kg in each workout, if you have completed all the sets with 5 reps. Last time i did 5x5 with 35 kg but today i could do with 37,5 kg 5,5,5,4,4 on the sets....

Forearms getting super sore during flat bench dumbbell flies

I haven't done dumbbell flies in years. I did them today, using super low weight (25lbs each hand) for 3x11. My forearms got really sore mid set on all the sets. I had to readjust my grip to alleviate the soreness mid-set. Does anyone else have this problem?

Substitute for military lifts at home?

Hi. I do not have access to a gym right now. I find that push-ups are as good as bench presses for working my chest. But what about a substitute for military presses for working the shoulders? Doing a hand stand against a wall and working shoulders that way? Any advice?
