Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Question for those that can do 1-arm push-ups and pull-ups.

How many 2-armed push-ups can you do, when you can do your 1st 1-arm push-up? I can do like 60 push-ups and I still can't do 1-arm push-ups. Even when my max was 80 reps, I still couldn't do 1. I heard it's around 100. Note: not counting 1-arm push-ups where you spread your legs a...

Machines vs. free weights

I can only speak for myself here, but I have always found the contractions I get on machines superior to free weights. Take for instance the machine preacher curls. Amazing contractions. Compare that to dumbell preacher curls or even barbell preacher curls. There is virtually no resistance at the...

300 pound bench

Just got a 300 pound bench press today. Was pretty excited for it. A hernia and knee problems have squat and deadlift derailed right now, so I’ve been benching every other day for the past few months while bulking. Hoping to get up to 315 before my next cut. https://imgur.com/a/9G399YO

How to breathe during squats?

Some videos tell me to take a deep breath (expanding the belly), hold it. Squat all the way, and only breathe out when you're standing straight again. But i also read that holding your breathe is a bad idea and that it can cause a hernia? Not sure if that's accurate. Or should i stand still,...

Is 15-16 reps too high for muscle gain?

I'm currently working out using reps of 6-12 and as I'd like to change my rep range from time to time in order to prevent or break through a plateau (if/when it happens), I've been considering trying out a slightly higher rep range. My question is, would 15-16 reps be useless for muscle building,...

Just started overhead press and already struggling?

Just started Stronglift 5x5 and I'm going well. But for some reason, my overhead press seems really week compared the other exercises. I have to take a 3min between sets instead of 1min and the weight is only 30kg? Is this normal?
