Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Squats?

I never used to do squats because I was so weak that I physically couldn't do them safely. I started doing lunges and split squats, which upped my strength and now I'm trying to get into squatting. I know that my form is good, but when I squat (I do a 5x5 type thing) I feel it in my lower back. Not...

Lower back stress/compression with RDL vs Deadlift

I’m wondering if having back rounding on the RDL is as stressful on your lower back as having a similar degree of rounding with a normal conventional deadlift. Or is the deadlift inherently more stressful as you lift from dead stop? Thanks.

Knees hurt on light weight squats but not on heavy squats

Been squatting a while, and recently my left knee hurts on squats, it hurts when I'm doing the bar but when I put more weight on the pain completely goes away? Surely if it was a form issue, the pain would increase as the weight increases? Any ideas?

Questions on Bench Press form.

Recently, I have seen a few videos on bench press and technique and noticed how loathed lifting your butt off the bench is. Many see it as people just trying to ego lift and how bad it is for your back and hamstrings. I have been lifting for a few years now and do lift my butt off the bench,...

The role of momentum in exercises.

So I'm curious, aside from Olympic style lifts like snatches, cleans and jerks, what is the function of adding the use of momentum to weightlifting sets? Aside from the obvious fact it's often used to throw more weights up, is there is reason to add it to an exercise? Maybe an athletic training...

Progressing in pull ups and dips

So far, I can do only 3 pull ups. I want to know if it's okay what I've been doing so far. One day I do as many pull ups as I can in 2 sets, and then I use resistance band to continue doing that, and I do them every other day so that my muscles can rest. One day I do pull ups, other day dips and...
