Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Hey. Basically, I can't workout at the gym right now because my right pectoral torn up so I'm doing some running. However, since I had just restarted working out because I had broken my right arm, I am not in very good shape at the moment. My endurance is poor, and my bodyfat must be at around...

How to fix lower back issues?

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I wrestled in high school and hurt my back. I went to PT for a couple of months, and quit wrestling after the injury, but I've had back pain ever since. First rep squatting is the hardest?

Anyone else notice that the first rep is harder than the next few? It's almost like after the first rep I get into a rhythm but the first is always slow, deliberate and I almost stall at the bottom (below parallel). I'm guessing it has to do with the stretch reflex not being used on the first...

Strength imbalance

Hi all I have recently starting hitting the gym again in a hopefully serious manner. I had a 'tanita' analysis done which confirmed some problems I have (or my training partner) noticed. My left leg is 'stronger' than my right leg...I think this causes my to lift a bit slanted - or it could...

Post Squat form check - leaning forward

Hey everyone, Recently my gym has changed and now there isn't a mirror in front of the squat rack anymore. Pull up or chin up: which is easier on elbows

Well, I finally did a chin up Friday from a dead hang. First step on my pull-up goal. But I have been having trouble with my right elbow, which I posted about here last week. Anyway, in my attempt to do a second chin-up, there was an audible "pop" in the elbow area. Today my elbow is stiff. I...

Squeezing glutes on Deadlift

So my ass tucks in during my set-up and I get lower back rounding. I have a question. Are you supposed squeeze your butt cheeks in during set-up and throughout the whole movement all the way up until lock out? Because all this time I've really only been squeezing them at the top when I lock...

How to prevent chest overgrowth. My chest grows too much.

Hello people, I'm new here. I registered because I'm having this problem since always. Everytime I do any kind of chest exercise, it barely works the shoulders or triceps/arms. 90% of the work is done by my pecs. I get a huge pump on my pecs and my arms and shoulders remain skinny. I know some...

Why am I not feeling as much on dumbell press than bench press?

A quick question. Whenever I do bench press I hold VERY wide and that often makes my chest hurt afterwards, but however. Whenever I do dumbell presses I never feel the pump or any "pain" in the chest afterwards, Why is that so?

What "common" exercises do you avoid?

Simple question. List, with any comments, common exercises that you personally avoid. I realize that any exercise that is "common" can't be obviously bad (or it wouldn't be common), so let's not get into a debate defending exercises others choose not to do. obviously they're not going to kill...
