Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Question What muscle weakness(es) makes it so your feet hurt from walking a lot?

If you're relatively light, you can walk/run for miles. But if you're fat, you won't be able to go more than a mile before your arches start hurting. I'm guessing that's because your arches are supporting more weight than they can handle. But I notice this is only with "fat" people. A fit/lean...

Feet up bench

This is an accessory in my program. What's the best technique to use?: feet up in air, or feet flat on the bench? I've been doing feet on the bench with a flat back and it's fine, but is there some major advantage to keeping feet in the air? I've watched a bit about core activation with feet in...

Smile Has anyone else had great results from banded squats and abductor machines?

I'm pretty new to this, and I know trainers prefer compound movements like deadlifts but i have had so much success with this machine . I'm also doing banded squats but I've really seen a difference. I couldnt even feel my glutes activating before i started using this machine. Anyone else?

Maintaining balance in your stretching routine for injury prevention.

When stretching, don't forget to maintain balance between antagonist muscle groups. As an example, if you stretch your hamstrings, it's smart to follow that with a stretch for your quads. These are antagonist muscle groups (one bends the knee and one straightens the knee). A second example...

Don't Squat for Hamstrings

Do not squat with the intention of focusing on your hamstrings. Squats are a poor choice for hamstring focus. This is clear from an anatomical standpoint and from a research standpoint. Below is a great article from Brad Schoenfeld, PhD on the topic. Q: Everyone says that squats are the...

Time for 1 exercise out of many in a routine

So I always see routines that have 6-8, 9 even 10 different exercises for 3 sets each. I am trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong because for me to do 5 sets of 5 reps on bench takes me 30 minutes including setting up/warming up. So how do I finish my routine without being in the gym...

Cool 100 reps of 75% max

What are the benefits of doing 75% of 1 rep max weight for 100 reps? Ex: I do 225 bench press for 100 total reps. However, reps are from 1-5 pyramid style until I reach 100. I do squats as well. I may include deadlift soon.
