Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Resistance band leg curls/extensions, band only

I’m using a pretty large rubber loop band. I have no anchor, no ankle straps, no bench. Well, I’ve got a lightweight chair and a floor. Are they possible? Wondering about RDLs too, or at least a hinging movement like a back extension that’s different from simply folding the band in half, stepping...

I’m a beginner. I have some experience with lifting weights and basic form, but my lifts are not so heavy. I want to build a solid foundation now that I’m stuck home with no equipment. I found this online, and wanted to see if it looked ok. It doesn’t say how many times a week I should preform...

Exclamation Palm swelling & discomfort after lifting

Hi guys. For the past month, the meaty part (under thumb) of my right palm swells up and causes slight discomfort after lifting. Another question about squat technique- depth

I recently learned that proper squat technique is pushing my hips back like I’m sitting in a chair, rather than bending at the knees and lowering by butt down like what I’ve been doing for about a year. My question is, do my quads need to go down parallel or lower in order for the squat to be...

Why is it harder to bench at home then at the gym?

I have a decent bench, I can bench in the high 300’s but since this quarantine I went from doing 275 for 8 on incline at the gym to almost dying on 245 for 6. The bar is thicker and my weights aren’t very high quality. Just curious what might be causing such a major drop off.

Upright rear delt raises?

Just discovered these the other day and wondered where they've been all my life. Seems to hit the rear and side delts considerably, and involves a lot of forearm and bicep too. Seems like i've finally found a way to isolate the side and rear without the limitations of arm leverage wearing them out...

I can run 10k. Can I run 7.7k?

This question may be silly but the thing is that I can already run 10 kilometers non stop on a flat road. I live in a rural village in Latin America (thus my poor english), and the closest town is located about 7.7 kilometers from here. However the road is quite steep at 3 points. Would I be...

Hi guys, I'm new to all this and am looking to get some leg strength. I've been doing some squats but due to a weak lower back ( working on that) I'm taking it slow etc to avoid injury. Is doing the leg press/vertical leg press worth my time? So many articles say no but surely it must...

Squats with your toes on plates (but heels in the air)

I recently saw a physio about some knee problems I've been having. He said my patellar is maltracking and getting pulled out to the side due to a muscle imbalance. One of the exercises he gave me was to do bodyweight squats on a step (like one of those Reebok ones) but with my toes on the step...

Just cardio

Posted a bit in the injury forum. Dealing with cervical radiculopathy, so can’t do any lifting for 2-3 weeks. Only thing that causes me no pain or flare ups is light jogging/walking. Doctor said it’s cool to go 1-3 miles a day, just to stay active. If I only do this cardio for a couple weeks,...

Looking for some exercises to do with a kettlebell

So I just got a 50 lb kettlebell recently delivered to me. I am still waiting for a 35 lb and 25 lb kettlebell to be delivered. Question Do you really need to be Sore to grow Muscle?

I always feel when im not really Sore the day after my workout it was not good enough, I always push myself, I do what I need to do + extra, and when I’m not sore (I don’t mean crippled) but a nice soreness, I feel like I didn’t go hard enough but I know I did. Do you need to be sore to grow?

Am I better off increasing my push ups if I can’t do much, or stick to weighted?

I’m a 155 lb male and from what I know, push-ups are about 70% of my body weight. I can do about 15 BW pushups and I used to bench 135 lbs for 3 reps (until my gym closed). I’ve been doing calisthenics and perform diamond pushups, chins, inverted rows, pistol squats, and lateral raises with a...

Questions about lifting heavy vs lifting light.

I’ve been reading online and am a little confused on what provides more muscle growth. I’ve been working out for almost two years but still am confused. Does lifting heavy but with fewer reps provide more muscle growth or does lifting lighter and way more reps provide more growth? Thanks.

Weighted Pushups?

I am currently cutting but now that gyms are closed, I have no access to bench press. If I could match the intensity (hitting about 6 reps before failure) with weights and someone pushing down on me, would that still maintain my muscle mass while cutting even though I'm not benching? I read a...
