Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Close Grip Bench press form for triceps

I see a lot of conflicting advice online and in bodybuilding books. Is there a proper way to do them? Franco columbu advices to grab the bar really narrow (hands 6 inches apart) with the elbows flared out. A lot of other people recommend the elbows semi tucked in, with a wider grip. I know...

Question Does genetics give us different strength limits?

Been watching all these strength lifters on instagram pump out big bench numbers for many reps and I can only do 225 pound bench test for 17 reps after 3 months of training (started out doing 5 reps). I am wondering will I get this strong if I eat as much as they do to gain the same weight and...

Standing-Press vs. High Incline or Seated Overhead

I'm really beginning to question the value of a standing press. You can't lift as much weight vs. seated, and especially vs. a bit of a lean back on the bench. You can work your abs separately, you can do front-squats, and really lots of other full-body lifts to build full body strength. You can't...

I sprint on a treadmill 2 times a week. Last week I sprinted at speed 10(think its 10mph) and went almost half a mile .45 to be exact, then rested and went 1/3 mile at 11mph. At my level of capability, are these speeds to slow to be anabolic? Should I crank the speed up to 13+?

Does the thickness of the barbell or handle make any difference for rows?

I prefer using cable machines to train my back and I always rotate between wide grip and narrow grip rows. The wide grip handle at my gym is pretty thick. Is there any major difference if I were to hold it with a narrow underhand grip as opposed to the shorter and thinner handle? I know this is...

How many reps of 225 can you bench?

It looks like the last thread asking this is over ten years old. Since this is one classic measure of strength endurance (such as the NFL uses), it would be interesting to put down a time stamp for the forum as we begin the new decade. For me, it's 12. How many can you all do?

Arnold Press/rotator cuff

The other week I re-injured a former rotator cuff injury (I suspect tendinitis but haven't been able to get an official diagnosis), so OHP has basically become impossible. In your opinion is 260lb bench good?

Just hit 260lb bench press. I’m only 152lb so it’s a 1.7xBW bench. I’d personally call it ok/good but not good/great. I really can’t see myself saying my bench is good/great until I hit 300lb+ cause Then I know it’s good. Also I’m not saying I’m not happy with it just Wondering how the community...

Dumbell shoulder press at slight angle?

Dumbell shoulder press at 90 degrees vs shoulder press with slight angle like say 100-110 degrees. Which is more optimal? The 90 degree shoulder press seems more difficult so this seems to isolate the shoulders more? After a left rotator cuff surgery intermittent low back pain the shoulder...
