Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Is it possible to target only one side of back?

I have a presumably unusual question related to a back deformity caused by scoliosis. The curvature of the spine caused the rib cage to rotate and make one side of the back hollow-like (concave) while the other has ribs protruding. I want to know whether it is possible to target the muscles...

Question Too deep dips ?

Stuck on my 320LB deadlift chasing 500

I recently started training for strength and power for the first time. I quickly moved from a 185LB to a 320LB deadlift within a month. Now I am stuck and sometimes I can’t even do 310LBs. My lower back strength is fine. It’s pushing off the floor. My form isn’t awful at 320LBs but it’s not the...

On a diet and considering strength training

I’m 5’10 31 years old and 90kg. I need to lose weight and I slowly am. I have no equipment either and as I’m in the process...

Squat (stability?) question

If I squat bodyweight with my arms outreached forwards (like a zombie), squat form is perfect, no joint issues or rounding. If, at the bottom of this squat, I pull my arms back towards my body and imitate holding a barbell on my back, I lose everything- knees start caving inwards, upper back...

If the first set is easier, should I add more weight than the others?

i undertand why the first set of each lift is easier, instead of 3 minutes rest you have several days depending on the split. So if you feel like you could do more on that specific set, is it worth putting more weight on the bar? If it's not a big deal I'm happy to continue doing straight...

Over 50 and out of shape..

3 years ago my thyroid went crazy. Before we knew what was happening, I lost 70 pounds in 9 months (Went from 200lb to 130lb). I wasn't a bodybuilder but I was healthy and could hold my own. I lost close to 70% of my muscle mass. During that time I had prostate surgery (roto-rooter), had torn...

John Cena Chest Not Aesthetic?

What should I do to not end up with a chest like John Cena but rather a chest like Zyzz (see attachments)? Some people on here might be going for that John Cena look but not me. I'm sure he can bench press like 600 lbs but his chest looks too popped out and droopy much like a women's breast (no...

Chin up progression

So I don't want to do curls that much anymore as they irritate my wrists sometimes so I've been messing around with my pull up bar to keep moving forward with gaining arm strength and mass. How many reps of 225 can you bench?

It looks like the last thread asking this is over ten years old. Since this is one classic measure of strength endurance (such as the NFL uses), it would be interesting to put down a time stamp for the forum as we begin the new decade. For me, it's 12. How many can you all do?

Just watched Alpha Destiny video about uneven traps and I'm confused.

He says that if your left side is tilting you should do jefferson deadlift with your right leg in front. But I have a problem, my hips aren't uneven like he says, but my traps and shoulders are and from the front my right shoulder is lower but from the back my left trap is lower and my left side is...

Question Isolate exercises to the failure ?

Hello, i have a question. When i do compound movements like deadlifts, squats, bench, pull ups etc. i never go to the failure, just close to it. Sometimes i do some isolate exercises at the end of my workout, just quick 3 sets of triceps extensions, biceps curls, side delt raises etc. My question is...

Back and abdominal muscles constricted around diaphragm.

25 years old, since 8th grade I’ve been pushing hips back and hunching forward. Caused me to be pissed and hate life at all time....

Whats up everyone. This is so odd but I noticed that when I do pushups using controlled form, my back is killing me the next day. But if I perform the exercise explosively I dont. Could this have something to do with anatomy?

In terms of head targeting, what is good DB replacement for Overhead Extensions?

I think those hit the long head of the triceps, I could be mistaken. I'm working out at home so no cable exercises, just DB/BB. The reason I'm looking to switch is because my right arm/shoulder dislocates easily when in that top/backwards position. Doesn't seem to affect the left side so it...

Concentration curls

When you do concentration curls on a bench, you typically put your elbow leaning against your thigh. Would it be better to kind of just hold your arm in the air instead not leaning against anything? I feel leaning agains your thigh makes it easier so less effective Thoughts?
