Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Injured lower back deadlifting. Alternative?

Hi guys, i'm 38 and have been lifting in the gym since 25. I never had a problem with deadlifts until recently where I injured it pulling a simple 185lb. It's been a month and half and my lower back still feels weak. I'm pretty sure my form wasn't too great and probably age caught up and my...

Dumbbells for the chest

Hi everyone I’ve been getting more and more into the gym recently and found that when I use dumbbells I can feel it targeting my muscles a lot more than machines. Can I ask if this sounds ok? 1. Arnold flys - straight bench - 14kg per side 2. Press - decline - lower push just under nipple...

Do rows work the entire back? Do I need pull downs/ups at all?

I'm making a sort of minimalist routine. If done correctly, the row works the traps, rhomboids, rear delts, and lats. Do I need to bother with pull downs/ups at all since they're primarily for the lats, but they're getting hit already?

Question Does Exercise Order Matter in Terms of Rest?

For example, on my first lower day, I start with squats, then rdl's, seated leg curls, and end off with split squats. I was wondering if that's an issue because my quads get a lot of rest time between exercises, my hamstrings are hit back to back, and my glutes and hit heavy throughout the whole...

Exercises for squatting

I’m wondering what exercises can improve squatting ability. I often fall backward when I’m trying to squat. I heard about facing wall squats where you keep your knees and nose touching the wall but I can’t do that. I fall backwards. Anyone know good exercises (maybe for core) to remedy this?

Struggling with pull ups

I've always struggled with pull ups, some of this is I need to lose weight. I don't do chin ups, I find them harder, and they hurt my elbows. While I've done as many as 8 strict pull ups in a set, I've mostly been doing 4 sets of 2 reps, and haven't made much progress. For comparison, I've...

Difficulty of rose versus difficulty of pullups

… And the comparative value between them (strength and/or hypertrophy). Rows seem much more important for core strength carryover, though I find the skill curve to be plentiful.

Hello, I'm a bit fking frustrated here. After two years of smooth lifting, shoulder pain is back. I don't know if it's impingement again as it was before. Back then it was an inflammation of the long biceps tendon (tendinitis) caused by impingement. It feels similar now, but the pain is more in...
