Why do I feel DOMS on my glute after doing lunges once when I regularly do hip thrust

with more than twice the weight? I don't get it. My glutes should be already used to the workload. I remember when I first included hip thrusts to my routine I felt DOMS on the first few days but then I didn't feel anything even though I have been slowly increasing the weight. Now I do a few set...

Are these goals realistic?

Hey there! I'm new to the thread, but I've been busting my ass for about five years now, starting when I joined the football team as a freshman. Regardless, I've set these goals to hit by college football season. I've listed my current weights below. Body Weight: 270 (current: 245) Bench Press...

What is meant by X * bodyweight squat/deadlift is a game changer?

Hello I'm new to lifting (3 months), but old (towards 50). I'm currently following 'A Workout Routine', which is going well. There is a mountain of advice online, and I'm trying to learn what I can. One thing that I've read a few times (as I'm sure you guys have), relating to squats and...

How much more can you bench press when you arch your back??

I've never arched my back during bench press but notice that it is done that way for competitions. I was wondering how much more can you all do for 1RM when you arch your back compared to when you don't. I'd try and compare next time I go to the gym myself but the bench's are never free so just...

Can’t keep back/spine neutral or straight

When squatting my lower back tends to want to curve round like a letter c when at the bottom of the movement, when doing stiff legged deadlifts I can’t keep my back straight I seem to hunch over. No matter how hard I try to focus on the form I can’t seem to get it. Any suggestions?

Overload vs Fatigue - how do you distinguish them?

I can't seem to find a clear, authoritive answer on the issue of what constitutes overload/failure, and what constitutes fatigue, and the PRECISE difference between the two. We are constantly told to overload our muscles and take great care to avoid fatigue. Now, the basis of Max-OT dictates we...

Grip on Romanian Deadlifts - should I get straps?

So any of you following my log (which I assume isn’t many ;-)) will know that I’ve been struggling with my grip lately. I grip my thumb underneath the bar (thumb between the fingers and the bar) and squeeze hard enough to make it hurt, but even so, I can generally hold it there for about 3 reps at...

Squat back angle

Is back angle on the squat determined exclusively by bar position and body proportions? I ask this because I have a very horizontal back angle during my squats, more so during low bar (obviously), but still a decent amount during high bar. However, the bar path is straight up and down over mid...

Hex Bar AKA Trap Bar for Romanian Deadlifts?

I'm starting Fierce 5 now and testing my starting weights this week. Can I use a trap bar for Romanian Deadlifts instead of the regular barbell? I've watched some deadlifts videos and Romanian vids, and so far it looks like the difference is that you try to mostly keep your legs straight with...

Question Shrugs. High weight/ low weight or low weight/high reps.

Which is the best way to do shrugs? When I go heavy on the weights it eventually gets hard to do the full motion. Is it just better to go light weight/ high reps or should I just not be progressing if I can't go through to full motion.
