Rear delt pain

Hey, so in the last few weeks I started feeling pain in the back of the shoulder basically in every movement, either pushing or pulling and even sometimes when I do a heavy set of squats. I started noticing a weakness in my left side(for example when I curl I see the left shoulder moves and not as...

My knees slip on the pad while using the assisted pull up machine, why is this?

Especially when wearing workout pants, my knees slip and slide on the pad when I am using the assisted pull up machine. I find that rolling up my pant legs above my knees helps a bit with traction, but is this a common issue when using this machine? On a side note, it feels like I am subconsciously...

Uneven mind muscle connection with lats?

Any advice on what to do if I have a good mind muscle connection with my lats when doing dumbbell rows with my left arm but I barely feel it when doing them with my right arm? Weird question but it’s annoying me lol

Training to negative failure without a spotter

Is there any effect way to do this? I try to place extreme emphasis on the negative portion of the rep but it’s much harder to do without a spotter to assist in bringing the weight back up

Is it common to drop 9 reps between the first and last set of an exercise?

I find it amazing how my reps can drop so much from fatigue after just a few sets. As an example, in my last triceps workout on db lying extensions my first set was 15 reps and I stopped 1 or 2 reps before failure. Then the second set I could only get 9, then 7 and in the forth set only 6 reps,...

Need help with the groin

Got a nasty groin problem, my glutes get numb and as I lose feeling in my inner hips, all I can feel is a pecking sensation on my penis. It feels like something wants my balls, and it really pinches me, sometimes to pain, it pinched sharply and makes me squirt a little bit. It will just lie there...

question for standing overhead shoulder press

Hey guys I been studying the standing overhead press. I'm learning with Mark Ripptoes "Starting Strength*. I get most keypoints of the exercise but I have a few question about the part where you have to drive your hips forward to get your head out of the way for a straight bar path. In the book...

are reverse crunch/leg raises and hip raises/toes to ceiling bad for the spine?

I've been doing lying reverse crunches and hip raises as one of my ab exercises. I don't get any back pains from doing them, but the nature of movements made me wonder if they'd do any harm to my spinal health (esp. the lumbar spine)

Squat reps—bar path

Since the bar path of a squat is supposed to be vertical directly over mid-foot, would you count a rep where the bar strays slightly over the toes? How much deviation from a perfectly vertical bar path is acceptable, if at all? In regards to progressive overload, I mean, is it ncessary to execute...

Fierce Five Upper/Lower Intermediate Replacements

I need a replacement for weighted back extensions. After doing some research it appears as though Good Mornings are a good substitution, but I don't know at how many reps and how many sets. Any suggestions? Also, is the 'Pec Deck' a good substitution for reverse dumbell flyes? Someone at my gym...

More DOMS in non dominant muscle

I don't tend to get doms unless I increase the weight (like my back day yesterday) and I noticed today I have a more DOMS in the left side of my back and lats than the other, even though the right side of my body is dominant. Could anybody please explain this to me? Is this because I must've just...

Tight Hamstrings = Pain on squat/deadlift?

Hey all. For about 2 years now I have had pain that occurs at around 3/4 of the way to lock out on squats and deadlift. The pain occurs where the glute meets the hamstring. Originally rolling on a lacrosse ball helped but its since stopped being effective. The pain usually begins over 250ish...

Hands on knees during leg press

So I had a question, when I use some weight that's heavier than normal during leg press I sometimes use my hands to help my legs a little during push off and then I'll immediately get them back on the handles. Does this help me in the way to use heavier weight? Or is it just taking away a big part...

Question Calf Raise Progression

Currently use a calf raise machine, and the weights don’t go up in small increments. Jumps from 75-90 lbs for example. So I’m upping reps before I up the weight between workouts. But should I worry about the total volume lifted or just worry about heavier weights? For example: Week 1: 75...

How is the blocky, wide midsection look achieved?

I'm not asking this because I want it, i just want to know why some people actually end up with such a wide waist causing them to not have an impressive v taper. Is it due to too much oblique training? Or just down to genetics? I've pretty much told myself based on advice of people here that squats...

Deadlift: Leg straighten before back

Being a beginner at working out, I have started lifting heavy only recently. A few days ago, while performing the deadlift a friend noticed that my legs were straightening before my back and said that this will take away the weight off my back and shift it to my hamstring. I read other threads on...

Squatting - Outer quad pain

Hey guys, I've been able to squat light lately but previously as I squatted around 70 - 80+kg I had gotten a sharp pain. This pain felt almost as if I was being stabbed by a needle in my leg as I got around parallel to ass to grass. This pain situated just above my knees, left leg, on the tip of...

quad size and squat strength don't seem to correlate

I'll try and keep this short as I tend to ramble... a lot. I've always had large muscular quads. I always hated that because as a kid I equated large with fat and I never replaced that ridiculous correlation with logic until recently (I'm 39). So, I never really worked my legs from the time I...
