Sticky Thread Sticky: The Viking's The Bare Bones Series

The big guy is back with another series of novice/early-intermediate routines - The Bare Bones programs - these are actually the first routines I made, just after I got my PT certification years ago. So I pulled them out of the graveyard, dusted them off and made a few tweaks and improvements to...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Beginner Powerbuilding Routine

I was asked about this by someone else, so I thought I'd share. I’m not a professional trainer, and although I do have a background in exercise physiology I have never worked in the field nor been up to date with it for the past 8 years. So you can do this if you wish, but if you get busted up, not...

Exclamation Sticky Thread Sticky: Full Body vs. Split Routines - Which to Choose?

Full Body Routines vs. Splits The question often arises, especially from beginners, about what type of routine to use. Your buddy told you to use a full body routine, but the muscle mags suggest a 5-day "bodybuilder" split. You don't want to start off on the wrong foot, but there is so much...

Sticky Thread Sticky: "Fierce 5" Novice Routine

FIERCE 5 I decided to design "Fierce 5" because I wasn't completely satisfied with any of the other novice programs that are so popular. In my opinion they all had a flaw or two (slow progression, high volume, low enough volume people lose interest and most of them lack what I’d consider proper...

Hey there, I am "new" too working out, as in I've worked out before but I have never actually put effort into it. For the past few months I have been losing weight. I am 6'2", and when I started I weighed 205 lbs. Last weekend I went to this nutrition shop looking for skin fold calipers (which...

New to gym - rate my workout

Started going to the gym a few weeks ago for the first time in my life. I'm 23, 5"10', 140 pounds. My bodyfat is a little high at 18% but I'll still be going for a lean bulk, at least until I start getting stronger as I can barely lift anything atm lol. I found the following workout for...

Question Drawbacks of not training chest?

Are there any real drawbacks of not doing any direct chest exercises? I mean in your health, posture, or in other exercises? OHP and chin ups work the chest a bit, but I think that doesn't really count.

Once a week Gym workout?

I have a question for you guys is it pointless to do once a week workout and what would that workout be in terms of exercises? I can't find the strength or the desire to do more then once a week. But would that matter or one workout a week is = 0 workouts a week?

Let’s squat 10 million pounds!

... in 2018 Since no one has made a squat thread this year, I thought it would be cool to do something a little different. So instead of just counting reps, multiply your reps by the amount of weight lifted, then add your total to the previous total. I think this will be more interesting...

Effects of Cardio While Bulking

So I did a 5 month cut and started my first bulk about a month ago. I did tons of cardio when I was cutting (I had a lot of weight to lose), but have reduced it to 2 hours a week ( 4-30 minute sessions on non-lift days). My question is if I've figured out my maintenance calories with doing the...

Transitioning from Fierce 5 to 5/3/1: Seeking Advice/Feedback

Hello all, I’ve been following these forums for a while now, but this is my first post. For the past year + 3 months, I’ve been running Fierce 5 (6 months on F5 novice, 9 months on F5 U/L intermediate) and, while the program has served me well, I’ve stalled on several lifts. Thus, I’ve decided...

Quick and dirty guide to intermediate progression

This guide assumes that you have already chosen a "split" and some core exercises at the least - plus the number of sets per exercise (start on the low end of the amount of volume you think you need). This is an autoregulated volume approach best suited for hypertrophy (credit: Menno Henselmans)...

So i'm not entirely sure I understand how they work. Can I use one substitution scheme one week and then a different one next week? So if I replace an overhead press with an incline bench on week 1, can I do OHP again on week 2? Furthermore, if I have workout A twice on week 1, can I do some...

I just began SS and have gone through a week, I’ve been doing 10lbs jumps every workout day. I know at some point the jumps will be smaller.
