Sticky Thread Sticky: Beginner Powerbuilding Routine

I was asked about this by someone else, so I thought I'd share. I’m not a professional trainer, and although I do have a background in exercise physiology I have never worked in the field nor been up to date with it for the past 8 years. So you can do this if you wish, but if you get busted up, not...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Viking's The Bare Bones Series

The big guy is back with another series of novice/early-intermediate routines - The Bare Bones programs - these are actually the first routines I made, just after I got my PT certification years ago. So I pulled them out of the graveyard, dusted them off and made a few tweaks and improvements to...

Exclamation Sticky Thread Sticky: Full Body vs. Split Routines - Which to Choose?

Full Body Routines vs. Splits The question often arises, especially from beginners, about what type of routine to use. Your buddy told you to use a full body routine, but the muscle mags suggest a 5-day "bodybuilder" split. You don't want to start off on the wrong foot, but there is so much...

Sticky Thread Sticky: "Fierce 5" Novice Routine

FIERCE 5 I decided to design "Fierce 5" because I wasn't completely satisfied with any of the other novice programs that are so popular. In my opinion they all had a flaw or two (slow progression, high volume, low enough volume people lose interest and most of them lack what I’d consider proper...

Deload next week - couple of questions

Hey guys, This isn't my first rodeo in terms of cycles etc., however it is the first time I've incorporated any meaningful amount of additional volume training into my programme after the high intensity sets. Context: I'm on Wendler's 5/3/1 programme. My primary goal is strength and training...

225 press

I would like to strict press 225. I know for aesthetics 135 works just fine if I put up sets of 8, but for some reason this goal appeals to me. My press now is pretty good, about bodyweight (200) but I have been training mostly lower body and some bench. Currently training OHP twice per week, once...

Adding mobility exercises to beginner routine

I've been doing SL 5x5 for the past month or so and have seen steady progress with my lifts and starting to add some muscle which is great. One thing I miss is the lack of mobility / stability exercises to help with some of my weaknesses. I have pretty weak ankles along with tight hamstrings...

We got 112,995 in 2015, but we only got less than 75,000 in 2016. Bad year. Let's try gunning for 150,000 again! 2016 (less than 75k, horrid): http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=170072913 2015 (112,995): http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=165798171 2014...

Is there a limit to the amount of time you can spend working out?

So, because I don't have a car atm (it's a pain in the ass to get a ride there), I workout every other day for 2.5-3 hours. Is this less effective than working out everyday. Since the workout is so long should I drink protein DURING the workout?

I've been doing F5 on and off for about two years (but fairly consistent over the past few months), and I'm getting bored with it. 225 pounds is all the Olympic weight I have and a inexpensive power cage rated for 210 pounds. I really don't want to lift heavier. What is strong reps with this weight for a 260 pound man that could lose 20-30 pounds of weight. These are my current reps Bench mid grip 8 reps, goal 10 reps....

How to do 2 a days

Can someone please give me example of a weekly 2 a day plan? I understand you could go once in the morning, then 8 hours or so later go again. But, do I train arms in the AM then legs in the PM? Or do high volume arms in the AM then heavy in the PM?

No pain, no gain...how much pain?

Yes, one thing I have always hated most about serious weight training is a situation where you need to PUSH HARDER to tear the muscles...yet it you work out TOO HARD...you just ruptured some biceps, snapped some tensions, etc. I basically carefully gauge when to end a workout with just being so...
