Is it possible to gain strength by training 2 reps away from failure?

In case I stick with the same exercises overtime, can I gain significant strength by training at 2 reps away from failure? I’m doing exercises like Bench Presses, Squats and Lunges at relatively heavy weights but there is no power rack (or cage, I don’t know how you call it) in my gym.
