Sticky Thread Sticky: Official PR Thread

I have decided to start a PR thread where everybody can simply post their PR's for any given exercise including things like strongman events and oly lifts of course. THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO START YOUR OWN WORKOUT LOG. This will eliminate the need for people starting new threads to post their prs. ...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Your first meet.

This subject comes up often enough that we should simply accumulate a list of everything that should be done, and how everything should be handled, for the novice competitor. Please add things that I have forgotten, and when everyone is done, I will compile it into a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide if...

Beyond 531 question - Joker Sets, First Set Last and BBB

I just purchased and read Wendler's new Beyond 531 book. My question centers on the use / frequency of Joker Sets. In Beyond 531 Wendler states that the PR set, First Set Last and Joker Sets are essential elements to the 531 program. I am currently running the "old" original version of 531 and...

Dear Friends I have been lifting for 2 years now. I am am Asian living in Germany. Today I was doing my deadlift(140 kgs) and my back was not straight. A guy came to me and said that he is the head of university sports and told me that I should decrease the weight or leave the gym. He said...

Question Question about competing in PL meet and squat stance

Hey everyone I was wanting some insight and advice. Here's the situation, I'm thinking of competing in a PL meet coming up mid next year. The meet would be bench squat and deadlift 1RM. My question is, I do my squats high bar (narrow stance) and I know all the top squat maxes are in low bar...

Spread the floor (toes) deadlift cue?

What's the deal with this cue? Is it one anyone here uses to great success? I was playing around last night with hook grip. I realised spreading the floor with toes might be a good idea with this grip. I was more screwing/planting the feet into the ground with mixed grip. I feel like the spread...

BUFFALO style squat bar

What are your thoughts BUFFALO style squat bar? I've never used one. Looks like it would take stress off shoulders and elbows , whilst letting you squat in same style. I'm wary though of the fact this bar seems to be overweight. I like to know exactly what a bar weighs if possible. Thanks

Quad/knee pain while doing sumo deads

I've started doing sumo deads after my regular conventional deads just for fun and to get more lifting in. I'm pretty new to sumos and been working on form and I think my set up is pretty good. I'm not going too heavy just repping 315 for practice. But my quads right in the tear drop gets...

Question Volume question

If i was squatting 225 for 5x5 and I switched to 3 sets of 5, will I not grow until my volume reaches the amount I was squatting at 225? ( 225x25=5,625) Does that mean I won't grow until I'm squatting 3 sets of 5 at 375? (375x15=5,625) I'm currently squatting 275 for 3 sets of 5. Does "...

Help Clueless Girl with Strength-Building Routine? (Damaged Myself/Regressed)

Hi everybody, I've been a lurker on these forums for about a year. I've also been reading about different types of regimes over the course of over a week, trying to fix things and add more exercises safely, but I am no better for it. Most of the regimes contain "volume days", and I am trying to...

Any powerlifters eat smaller portions of food like BBers do?

Some people debate the whole eating smaller meals throughout the day speeds your metabolism but in terms of convenience of health and performance can eating smaller portions throughout the day keep you at optimal performance and also keep a more pleasant physique?

Belt recommendation

What belt do you fellas recommend for times when you go through a cutting and bulking phase? I've always had my EFTS single prong belt. I got it back when I was around 225-230lbs. I've been on a cut for several months now and the belt is pretty loose on me now seeing as I dropped to 190lbs...

Does this app have the right program scheme?

So I started 5/3/1 BBB and the App I'm using seems like it has a lot of exercises. Currently, I did the regular 5 reps 3 sets for the main work sets on deadlift, then 5 sets of 10 reps with super low weight, then the program also says 5 sets of 10 reps deficit deadlift and then 5x10 rows, 5x10 t...

Tips on Starting my own Strongman gym?

I'm thinking of starting my own hardcore gym for strength athletes (strongmen, powerlifters, Olympic weightlifters). What's more beneficial: Strong core or Hamstrings?

Quick question. I'm currently doing 5/3/1 BBB, squatting and deadlifting twice a week. On my Deadlift/Squat day I do abs and on my Squat/Deadlift day I do hamstrings. Should I be hitting my core twice a week or my hamstrings twice a week? Both are pretty weak so I'm not sure what would benefit...

Silent Mike/Omar/Bart Kizen Powerlifting Program

I've acquired the 12 Week Peaking Program + Silent Mike's Infinite Off Season Program. The off season program has me doing Barbell Rows and Block Pulls one day, and the day after you should do Lat Pulldowns. What do you think about it? Isn't it counter-productive? Other than that the program...

Do I just need more volume?

Hello bb forums, Ive been lifting for just under a year(about 9 months) and my progress just does not want to move. i just finished a mini cut and dropped 10 lbs thinking it would help me when I start to do another bulking cycle, but it hasn't helped at all and all of my lifts are still stalled....

Is a deadlift bar in training helpful or detrimental?

I currently use an IPF approved Eleiko competition bar for all my lifts in training. I'm tempted to buy a deadlift bar, partly for the fun of lifting more weight. The worry is that when I compete I'll be lifting with a harder bar as my federation uses IPF approved stiff bars. It would however be...

Grade 3 Quad tear.

How long does it take to return to previous strength levels? I have been working like a mad man and I am about 90ish percent to where I was after 6 mths. I did 10 weeks physical therapy and been full go training wise for the last 3 mths. It feels like the recovery road is taking forever.
