Sticky Thread Sticky: Your first meet.

This subject comes up often enough that we should simply accumulate a list of everything that should be done, and how everything should be handled, for the novice competitor. Please add things that I have forgotten, and when everyone is done, I will compile it into a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide if...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Official PR Thread

I have decided to start a PR thread where everybody can simply post their PR's for any given exercise including things like strongman events and oly lifts of course. THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO START YOUR OWN WORKOUT LOG. This will eliminate the need for people starting new threads to post their prs. ...

Number one: YES YOUR LIFTS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO COMPETE. IF YOU CAN LIFT THE BAR AND COLLARS (25KG/55LBS), WRITE YOUR NAME ON AN ENTRY FORM, AND PAY THE ENTRY FEE YOU CAN COMPETE. NO ONE IS GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU, YOU WON'T BE EMBARASSED, YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE "COMPETITIVE" DEPENDING ON WHO SHOWS UP....

Usapl/WADA legal preworkouts

Hey there gang, made a profile here several years ago and haven't really used it due to becoming a regular on a couple other boards. However, there aren't many natty lifters on those boards so I thought it might be worth my time to log in here and ask this question. I am currently prepping...

Difficulty getting into a deep squat

When I squat deep I feel the most discomfort in my hip creases, even if I'm just free squatting. It's not a sharp pain, and it's equal on both sides so I don't think it's impingement. It feels more like a very uncomfortable stretch. After a few minutes loosening up it usually gets better. My...

New gym different bars.

Started new gym last week, Everything is completely different with the bars! All the bars there are thick and don’t bend at all. The squat rack is different made a PR there now actually since it’s way better rack. 408lbs-185kg. But the deadlift is way worse. Since i can’t get tight enough...

How can I train for atlas stones/hufasell

So I'm going to enter my first local comp as a novice. It's a hybrid highland/strongman event. I work out at home and was wondering what exercises I could do if any to prepare for a 240lb atlas and 270lb hufasell. I have only done compound barbell/hex bar work since I started lifting last Oct. Are...

Scale accessories to weigh equipment (lifting stones, tires, etc)

I just bought one of those mini crane scales with a 660lb capacity(attached an image)...looks great, excited to use it, but... I can see how I would just hook a deer onto it or something like that directly, but I have a bunch of large rocks I use for working out and got this primarily to weigh...

280 bench to 315 bench in 8 months, is it possible?

I follow a strict powerlifting routine consisting of two movements a day plus accessories and so far ive had great progress with it. I benched 280 the other week and it felt like rpe 9, maybe could have done another. Is it possible with intelligent training to reach 315 by the end of this year? ...

How soon till I reach 315 Bench press

I just started lifting seriously about 4 months ago, and just 2 months ago my 1 rep max was 225. I've been increasing by 5lbs every other week sometimes 10 lbs if I feel like I can get it. Last week I hit 260, and today I felt pretty strong so I tried 275 and I was able to hit it for two reps...

Overhead Press Carryover To Bench

In the past I have only benched, not really overhead pressed at all. My chest and triceps tend to dominate a lot more in my bench than my shoulders, and my shoulders get tired first if I'm doing reps. Also, my shoulders are known to be weak since my bench is 215lbs, but my overhead press is only...

Squatting/Deadlifting with suit

After some years of absence from competing, I'm now trying to get back into the game again and getting used to lifting with gear. A few observations when squatting/deadlifting in suit though that I'd like to you your opinion on: - At the bottom of the squat where the suit really "kicks in", it...

Gym Recommendations in Houston, TX

I'll be in Houston in October 2018 and was wondering what the best PL gym is to train a few days. So far I have circled Texas Barbell Syndicate and Texas Strength Weightlifting Center but I am open to suggestions. Would be good to have a gym where I can get some training points too.

Narrow sumo stance, hip or knee hinge

Hello, I’ve never felt comfortable with conventional dead’s and moved to sumo last year, I found a narrow stance sumo to be the best for me but also played around with sumo. I’m confused about the narrow stance in the sense that some people say it’s still a sumo, some say it’s a wide stance...

Re-run cycle or apply linear progression

Hey guys, so I lost quite a bit of strength after getting sick, 10kg off my bench and 12kg off my squat. So the question is, is it better to try doing linear progression to go back to my old strength (say 3x5 and add 2,5kgs every week) or just run the program I was running and see how I progress?...
