Sticky Thread Sticky: Official PR Thread

I have decided to start a PR thread where everybody can simply post their PR's for any given exercise including things like strongman events and oly lifts of course. THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO START YOUR OWN WORKOUT LOG. This will eliminate the need for people starting new threads to post their prs. ...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Your first meet.

This subject comes up often enough that we should simply accumulate a list of everything that should be done, and how everything should be handled, for the novice competitor. Please add things that I have forgotten, and when everyone is done, I will compile it into a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide if...

Number one: YES YOUR LIFTS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO COMPETE. IF YOU CAN LIFT THE BAR AND COLLARS (25KG/55LBS), WRITE YOUR NAME ON AN ENTRY FORM, AND PAY THE ENTRY FEE YOU CAN COMPETE. NO ONE IS GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU, YOU WON'T BE EMBARASSED, YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE "COMPETITIVE" DEPENDING ON WHO SHOWS UP....

Just did my first classic meet [501/407/534] @ 201

After more than 10 years of training, primarily for fitness purposes, I devoted this year to try and get a nice result in powerlifting. I have been doing a 5-day a week routine with 5 bench workouts, 4 squat workouts and 3 deadlift workouts with 1-2 accessory movements a day. I lifted in the 205...

question to big bench pressers about unracking

I noticed the more weight I can bench, the more difficult and sometimes painful it is to unrack the weight If I set myself up on the bench properly, in order to unrack i have to push up and a kind of unnatural angle, and find myself shrugging, then I have to fix my lats again before I can bench....

High/max tension vs low/no tension technique

To describe this. If I lift I can either use maximal tension in my muscles and joints, or zero/low tension. With less tension the rep simply occurs quicker. I can squat, bench and deadlift (conventional and sumo) with these styles. OHP and bent rows I use only low/no tension. I first competed...

Do oly shoes add weight?

So I'm looking to buy some oly shoes and was wondering if it increases your squat at all. I'd say my squat is more of a hybrid squat than high bar. I have pretty good ankle mobility so depth isn't as issue and my form is pretty good as well. I'm still going to buy oly shoes regardless though

Lower body lifts lagging

I've been doing SS, then I modified it after about 3-4 months because I started working full time again as a waiter and the stress on my legs (8-10 hours daily standing) has been a factor in recovery since I'm pretty firmly in the advanced novice phase. I also reduced my calorie intake because...
