Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Pop Pin Issue

I have a Strive Leg Extension/Leg Curl Combo. Love it. Issue I'm having is that a pop pin doesn't appear to be long enough the way the machine is currently assembled. Works fine for leg extension but when setup for leg curls a bit of torque will slip it into the next hole (kind of jaring)....

Grip tape for my adj. dumbbells? Or buy a new set? If latter, which brand?

I just built an in-home gym and picked up some used 1" adjustable dumbbells. After using them for chest day and farmer carries, I realized the knurling is quite extreme, making heavy reps uncomfortable and leaving behind pretty good indents on my hands. Any recommendation for a grip tape that...

Seeking rec: 7' rack, plate storage, <55" deep, pull-up bar, $500

Only had my home gym for a few weeks but the low-end Marcy rack has got to go. I don't lift that heavy (low 200s squat), but I'm not trusting failure with these hollow spotter bars. Rack also has a bit of wobble. Grabbing plates from my plate tree is also a little cumbersome, so would prefer a...

Advice on lifting gloves

Going into winter and my gym is unheated. Normally the bar warms up in my hand, but when it's really far below zero it causes problems. I much prefer lifting in the cold, the colder the better actually. Any advice on gloves to keep my hands from freezing to the bar?

Easy to add plates to an existing cable machine?

I'm looking at getting something like an Inspire FT1 or Cybex Bravo to my workout area. If I decide that the weight stack isn't heavy enough, is it easy enough to buy the additional accessory weights and add them on? ... or is this the kind of thing that should be ordered when buying the machine?
