Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Thoughts on Irwin Fitness (monolift, bench, roller j-cups)?

Purpose of Smith Machine?

The squat racks at my gym are usually pretty packed, but the Smith machine is eternally empty, save for the one guy who does calf raises once in a blue moon. My question is what else could I use a smith machine for, and is it a significant downgrade from the unassisted squat rack?

I'm used to benching off of a standard 12" pad but contemplating making the jump to a 14" wide pad. I don't expect to magically press more weight, but I'm under the impression most people like the wide pads better. What's your experience? I'm not currently experiencing shoulder issues but I...

Hi, I recently bought a 71’ T2 Titan power rack, and was curious as to if anyone has ever messed around with the mono-lift attachment or the safety straps? From what I understand, the monolift (never used one before) can serve as something of a spotter for benching/squatting? Not sure if it’s...

DIY wheeled resistance sled - anyone make something like this?

After seeing videos of the Torque and XPO sleds, there's no way I would want to deal with the hassles of more traditional sleds.
