All about equipment and iron!

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

I believe some of the regulars have gone with rolled rubber flooring, 3/8" thick Regupol appears to be the main choice. Here in the UK it's sold under the Everroll brand. Given the cost, the amount of work involved in moving equipment and laying the flooring, do you think it's been a worthwhile...

Question Dumbbells turn my hands black

I picked up some of those generic dumbbells at Walmart, and they leave these black stains on my hand when I use them. I've tried wiping them with wet towels, and with alcohol wipes, but neither worked. Any suggestions?

Ader Mega Ox Bow Bar

Anyone own this bar that can comment? Interested in this as it is in the affordable category. It’s no Duffalo but not sure I can spend that much and not be sleeping outside nor survive the brutality. I do know the sleeves are bolt on, vs clips not sure that would make much of a difference. ...

Padding on a SSB and Slim Football Bar

I've been researching these two bars for a few weeks now. In a perfect world, the Transformer Bar would have lots of reviews, sterling ones at that, and I'd spend extra and would be done, but I can't find much on it really. First, is the padding that important on a SSB bar? I have a SLAP...

Innovative dip bar rack attachment

Haven't seen one like this. Thoughts? They block the walk-through rack design, maybe they should be mounted on the storage uprights, and slightly angled for wrist comfort. Thought they were interesting anyway.

40-pound (olympic) barbell vs regular barbell?

What's the difference? I can do a benchpress on both a 40-pound barbell and regular barbell with both barbells having 90lbs. The regular barbell would have 45 lbs on each side and the 40-pound barbell would have 25 on each side because the barbell itself weighs 40 lbs. I've used both barbells on...
