Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

So you are new and dumb enough to believe the Bowflex commercials, before you get flamed and negged into the red, use the damn search function to get the answer to "dude, should I be ignorant and think about getting a bowflex" OK, now if you post another thread, you get what is coming to...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Just as in every year past, this time of year sees an uptick of spammers, scammers, crooks, charlatans, ganefs, and knuckleheads bent on using this forum to shill their junk. One more time; don't quote or reply to such threads/posts; doing so only creates more work to clear them out. Simply...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Swiss Bar / Football Bar

Thinking about getting one for my home gym. Rogue has several options. Also looked at the Kadillac Bar from Kabuki Strength. Cost is no concern, within reason. Suggestions?

Flooring - it can't really be this much, right?

I was looking through the PLAE options on Rogue's site. It's over $1000 per 100 sq feet for most colors. I assume the Ecore product Sorinex carries would be similar but I haven't checked pricing. Surely there is no way large commercial facilities are spending anywhere near this per square foot....

Hack Squats - EliteFTS vs. Watson vs. Atlantis

I'm in the market for a hack squat and I think I've narrowed it down to these three brands. I really like the adjustable angle (30-70 degrees) and adjustable foot plate on the Watson one, however, the carriage is insanely heavy and the safety hooks are at an awkwardly high or low height for me...

What type of ball to use in FYR 2.0?

I cannot tell which ball would be best to purchase to use for this program. Medicine, Slam, or other type I am not educated on yet? I am in decent shape, possibly intermediate level. Just ran in a 4 mile race and weightlift 3-5 times weekly, 36 yo female. Can anyone give me some advice please?

Hello everyone! I’m hoping this forum will be able to help me find my favorite plates. I have searched on my own locally and with contacts across the country but haven’t had much success. I’m interested in 35, 25, 10, 5, and especially 2.5 pounders. Any direction or information is very much...

Which dipping belt should i get and what size?

I'm a pretty small guy with a 28.7 inch stomach circumference. The belts i've seen online vary a bit between lengths. Ranging from 33.5 inches to 39 inches. I imagine i should just get the smallest one possible? Should i focus on chain length as well? These belts are my current options, not...

Kinesiology tape

Anyone use kinesiology tape? My physical therapist suggested it as I start working out again in the later stages of shoulder surgery recovery but it sounds like hocus pocus to me. Bodycraft F660

Plenty of older threads on this, I don’t see anything within the past 5 years. I’m thinking about adding one. It’s about as big of a unit as I can fit in my gym (this will be the final piece). I see the hack squat height issue has been fixed (I’m 6’0”). I also see some saying anything over...

Question Knee sleeves and questions

Im getting the SBD knee sleeves, but I see they also have wrist wraps, are wrist wraps also usefull/necessary for bodybuilding or will they just get in the way of flexibility? I see they have a tight fit and loose fit and the loose fit seems better for more flexibility? Also should I get the SBD...

Is there any way to make a hex bar longer?

Hello, I purchased a hex/trap bar the other day and, while it works great, the ends aren't quite long enough to fit more than a few plates. Is there any product that can extend the length on each side? Of am I going to have to purchase a larger, more expensive bar all together?

Powerblock Questions

Has anyone had experience with the commercial Powerblock weights that go up 125 or 175 per Dumbbell? I am looking to upgrade from Bowflex 10-90s but from the images of Powerblocks I am concerned with the bars surrounding the forearms being awkward and potentially causing injury.
