Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

I'm thinking of adding curl bar to my arsenal of bars and was wondering if the 2" curl bars are worth getting instead of a regular curl bar, I'm not really specific on whether the bar is rackable, or not since this bar would be in my secondary lifting room and can be placed on my adjustable bench...

Question Pulley/cable column units with long cable travel/extension. Any on the market?

Hi, I’m in the process of selecting a cable column unit for my garage gym; most have a maximum cable extension around 2,5 metres. Are there any with a longer travel - 4/5 metres? Cheers CrossCrawler

Long term Duffalo Bar use

For those who own a Duffalo Bar that the newness has worn off... How long have you owned it? How often do you still it? Every bench and squat? Is it a regretful purchase, and you wish you had spent the money on something else? Somewhere between?

Wide fit training shoes?

Looking for some advice for people with wide feet. I've been wearing Metcons for a few releases, but my foot must be getting fatter. They're too tight in the toe box. Length is right with a 12, but too narrow. If I go with a 12.5 or 13, they're too long, and I'm worried about tripping. Anyone have...

Drilling out weight plates and my new pro style dumbbells

I had 144 standard weight plates, and 22 pro-style dumbbell handles. Problem? The handles are 28mm (approx. 1 1/16 inch), while many of the plates would only accommodate a 1 inch (approx. 25mm) bar. I did quite a bit of online research to find the best way to deal with this issue, i.e. how to...
