Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Powertec workbench lever system

I've had mine for 10 years or so, some things I really love, but one thing that never quite feels right is squats with it. I've thought of creating some type of 'add on' or something to help the groove (bar path) track more the natural movement. I've tried facing the machine and facing away, each...

Why are the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells so absurdly expensive?

I know most Bowflex products suck but ever since I saw their SelectTech 1090 dumbbells (you just turn a dial to select a weight from 10 to 90 lbs and when you pick up the dumbbell it will weigh the weight you chose on the dial) I've wanted them but they are like $600-800 for the set of two. I think...
