Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Easy to add plates to an existing cable machine?

I'm looking at getting something like an Inspire FT1 or Cybex Bravo to my workout area. If I decide that the weight stack isn't heavy enough, is it easy enough to buy the additional accessory weights and add them on? ... or is this the kind of thing that should be ordered when buying the machine?

Ironmaster plate tree

Hi, does anyone know if the ironmaster plates work with a standard plate tree? I think the ironmaster plate hole is a little under 1”. I don’t have any standard plates to compare with. I find it rather cumbersome to stack the ironmaster plates within the stand. Thanks.

A few questions about a deadlift platform

I want to lift on my ceramic tile floor, it's the only place I can lift inside. I figure if I build a 4 x 8 deadlift platform, I could put the squat rack in the middle and just deadlift inside the rack. I keep it controlled and I lift under 400 lbs, do you think this would damage the floor? When...

Hack Squats - EliteFTS vs. Watson vs. Atlantis

I'm in the market for a hack squat and I think I've narrowed it down to these three brands. I really like the adjustable angle (30-70 degrees) and adjustable foot plate on the Watson one, however, the carriage is insanely heavy and the safety hooks are at an awkwardly high or low height for me...

Grip tape for my adj. dumbbells? Or buy a new set? If latter, which brand?

I just built an in-home gym and picked up some used 1" adjustable dumbbells. After using them for chest day and farmer carries, I realized the knurling is quite extreme, making heavy reps uncomfortable and leaving behind pretty good indents on my hands. Any recommendation for a grip tape that...

Powerblock Questions

Has anyone had experience with the commercial Powerblock weights that go up 125 or 175 per Dumbbell? I am looking to upgrade from Bowflex 10-90s but from the images of Powerblocks I am concerned with the bars surrounding the forearms being awkward and potentially causing injury.
