Sticky Thread Sticky: Official Newbie Bowflex Search

So you are new and dumb enough to believe the Bowflex commercials, before you get flamed and negged into the red, use the damn search function to get the answer to "dude, should I be ignorant and think about getting a bowflex" OK, now if you post another thread, you get what is coming to...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Cheapo Setup

Ok so let's go through the cheapest options for new equipment that you'd be willing to use for training. While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable...

Camera for the gym?

Was curious if anyone has tried recording their lifts in the gym. I wanted to get a better look at my form. I lift alone so it's hard to get a second pair of eyes. I've seen lots of youtubers recording their lifts at the gym but I think I would feel awkward with a tripod and a digital camera...

help ID'ing this barbell - 'HD' on end cap

Picked up this 20kg barbell off CL for $50 (decent price for a beater bar). The guy said it was a Rogue bar but I checked with Rogue and they confirmed it wasn't one of theirs. The letters 'HD' on the end caps are the only discernible markings I can find.

Chalk vs Gloves. Pros and Cons

Hello, I am doing a school project where I am doing a market research study about the use of chalk and gloves in the gym. The focus of this market study is to find out the reason why people prefer one over the other (less money to buy, easier to use) , why they are using them (extra grip,...

Got a treadmill - Ok to run in garage?

Hi all, With less time to hit the gym, I am trying to do more exercise at home. I was able to get a treadmill for free, but only space I have is in the garage right next to heat furnace and water heater. Should I be concerned about the air quality for running, or is it still probably healthier...

Thoughts on EliteFTS Five Ring Bar

I like the idea behind this bar quite a bit. I have a bar with OLY rings and it can be frustrating when trying to find the right grip for something like incline presses once trying to go anything wider than a close grip (for me gripping pinkies on OLY rings is too wide). That being said i can...

Cutting uprights, and adding “pipes” to sabers

Hi. Was looking for some input on the easiest way to cut down 11 gauge, 2 x 3 uprights. I’m thinking mitre saw, metal cutting blade. Also, my rack has 1” sabers, and years ago I missed the cups re racking a squat and crashed down on the safeties. There’s a slight bend. They still work, but...
