Creating an "atmosphere" during a PT session...??

an interesting topic for discussion. I wonder how many trainers ever give this any thought. Do we ever give thought to the "atmosphere" or "vibe" that is created during a PT session? Whether we realize it or not there is a vibe or atmosphere present during our training sessions. The same...

Training multiple clients at once

I have a few clients who are friends/family so they train together. The groups range from 2-4 clients at once. The gym advertises that its the same price for more than one person to train at once (even though we we change whatever we want). The benefit is that its cheaper for them as they split...

screening potential clients

i work for a corporate gym so it's a little more easier to attain clients than being an independent contract trainer. new members are passed along from sales counselors to trainers as free "fitness assessments" and thats the time to try and attain potential clients. several times now I've had...

This Forum is in need of change I believe

There are too many blatant "I want to be a PT" Or questions regarding certification. I envision this forum to be more of an exchange of exercise routines, programs for special populations, questions for TRAINERS about a certain exercise or circumstance that one of his or her clients have, etc. A...

Question How much do you pay your gym?

Do you pay a flat rate? If so how much? Do you pay/get a percentage? If so how much? To get it started, I pay 50%.

Employee or Indep Contractor question?

I know another trainer who works for a small gym in SoCal. The gym owner considers his trainers to be "independent contractors" and expects each IC to pay their own insurance, taxes, etc.. like a typical IC. BUT the the gym sells the training packages, sets the rates and pays the trainer...

Becoming a PT?

Anyone have any good resources/suggestions. I am graduating from college this year and realize that I hate what I studied and don't really want to work in an office :( Any information on how long it takes to get certified, best way to go about it, any advice or things to think about.

Is there any really good money in personal training?

My whole life I've wanted to be a S.W.A.T. Team Officer. Then, I found out the ones in my area don't get paid any more then a regular Sheriff does. Then, I decided I'd like to be an FBI officer, but I had my doubts ... I didn't have any experience in the feild obviously and I didn't want to...

Is this a good plan?

Ok i've been PT'ing for about 3 months now. I've pretty much became the main trainer in regards to hours i'm doing there (large gym) and i'm starting to take it more upscale/ cut out the BS and bad clients. The none of the other trainers have a cancellation policy but now I am going to enforce...

Payment, packages, deals etc

Okay, not sure if this has been discussed. In short, how do you get paid? 1) I am assuming most people sell "packages". if so, how do u set that up? Are you giving a discount for larger packages? 2) If they buy a large package, lets say 50 sessions, do they have to pay that all at once or...

Kinesiology and Health Science majors/graduates

I am considering applying to York University as a mature student to study Kin/Health. The process is a little different for me since they mostly base their decision on what I've done outside of the classroom as opposed to grades. I was not a slacker; my reasons for dropping out of high school were...

Post How many of you immediately found work after getting your cert w/o college?

Say, within a few weeks post certification. With no post-highschool training, only the cert. I'm interested in the job-availability.

In-home personal training. Which type?

If you had to choose between going to client's homes and training them with portable exercise equipment or have them come to your home since you already have a decent home gym set up that you can easily turn into a home studio, which would be a better choice? I thought of a few cons and pros...
