Sticky Thread Sticky: Attention: Under 18s

The moderators here have a policy that we do not advise anyone under the age of 18 to restrict their calorie intake. So please do not ask for such advice here. This is because there is the possibility that you could stunt your growth or develop an unhealthy relationship with food. If you have...

Sticky Thread Sticky: DON'T LOOK PAST the BASICS

From what I've been reading in this forum for the past several years---and it's getting worse, not better---most posters here are, for some reason, missing the basics of fat loss, and instead, are looking for some magic bullet, or worse, putting their faith in some TV or youtube guru, or some...

Got my DEXA scan, need a sane approach to weight loss.

Got my DEXA scan and it is not pretty I am 5'7" and 290 lbs and my lean mass is only 139 pounds. DEXA scan says my RMR is 1701 calories a day. Would lifting heavy 4 days a week and eating roughly 1600 calories a day be reasonable for good weight loss ?

First post

Wanted to post and see what everyone thought, I’m totally new to everything so don’t be too harsh. 46 years old, 6’3” started out 279 and done 5 lbs the first month. Lift 2 days a week and cardio 3 days. Try to count macros on the Macros app (2400 calories). First month seems like a good change in...

High calorie deficit but high protein intake

Hey guys, Ive been trying to lose 30 pounds. I started fasting 2 months ago and went from 230lbs to 214lbs with no exercising. A month ago from now, I’ve been strength training. Pretty much to make sure I maintain some muscle. The only fat I have to lose now is my gut. I know it’s the last thing to...

Increased anxiety during cuts/deficits

Good afternoon forums. I've been bodybuilding for over a decade now but I still seem to struggle to get down into the single digits, in fact I've probably only been that low once in my early twenties. The main problem I seem to face is increased anxiety and panic attacks when I'm deep into my...

is it typical to be so hungry when cutting

I find when in a calorie deficit my hunger is so extreme that i cant sleep through the last 2 hours of a 24 hour cycle and am hungry 24/7 and am only at a 250 calorie deficit and have a Matinaince calorie intake of 3300. this is even true when i am as fat as a dexascan 15%.

How much happier has weight loss made you?

I know this may sound dumb, but I always feel like when I lose all the weight and I am healthy, that I'll just be happier. I'm not sure how exactly but I just won't feel as bad. Like somehow the chemicals in my body will balance out so that I won't be as depressed, or things won't affect me as...

Localized fat loss - true or false?

Say a guy who already works out has excess belly weight but then he starts training abs for the first time, will that speed up fat loss in the abdominal region?

I have a serious question about changing my physique

I haven't worked out in over 8 years. Due to going back to school and changing careers I had no time to lift and I started eating bad foods. Well anyways I'm 5'11 and I'am 260 pounds. I was 267 three weeks ago. I have a natural stocky build so I would like to finish off 12-14 months from now at...

How many times a week sprinting to lower body fat percentage?

I’m somewhere around 15% body fat and am looking to get down to 10% to hopefully reveal a six pack. The top two abs show pretty clearly, but there’s nothing for the last four. I’m pretty sure I’ve done enough to at least have a four pack, but it might just be genetics. If it’s not genetics, how...

Summer Shred Macros

I have been lifting rigorously for 6 years now, but never had a desire to become shredded until now. Im 5'9 174 and roughly 15% body fat. Im in the process of setting up my macros and feel like I'm doing a cut wrong. As of now they are 200 P 113 C and 30 F for a total of around 1,500 calories. my...

Estimate my bodyfat %

Hey guys, So I've been cutting for a few weeks now and I was looking for an estimate on my body fat percentage. I'm not sure if I should keep cutting (it has been getting MUCH more difficult). I put some pictures and I was hoping to get other opinions. BTW my measurements are: Waist 29.5...

Cutting while inactive?

Hey guys, I have recently had surgery and will be inactive for around 2 months. Before this I was going through a cutting phase and I’m wondering is that sensible to continue while I’m out of the gym or should I eat at maintenance until I can return?

Lifting weights helping weight loss more than cardio.

Lately I've been trying to lose weight, only slightly overweight. I've been eating clean and doing lots of walking and weight was going down very slightly. Do I lift as much when cutting?

I’ve been searching the internet and haven’t found much help on this topic. When I am cutting do I want to try and lift just as much or should I aim for a lower weight and higher reps?

What am I doing wrong with cutting

Hi all. So I’m currently around 22% body fat and am 5’6 and weigh 142lbs. I lift heavy and minimal cardio. I’m trying to lose weight/cut. But I’m trying to lose more fat. I’ve been doing this September and have dropped 47lbs. I’m trying to get some of the last fat off to start a good bulk. I’d like...

Can anyone recommend a good, simple, cheap fitness tracker?

Cheap, as in under $50. I don’t need ANY of the dozen-plus irrelevant 'bells and whistles' that come with some models. All I want is something that will keep a running record of my heart rate for the duration of my workout, and then use whatever information I have to program into it (my height,...

Losing muscle while cutting,is it a myth?

when you're bulking and gaining fat,the fat 'sits' right on top of the muscles which makes the muscles look bigger than they are and also the muscles are hidden underneath the fat so you can't clearly see them,so how exactly do people know that they are losing muscle while cutting?how do we know...

Losing weight but how do you reduce body fat %?

I'm loving the inspiration of LoseIt - thank you, I've learned a lot so far. My question to those who have lost weight is whether your body fat drops at the same time, or if you had to do something extra to reduce it (i.e. weights?) I've been counting calories via WW since beginning of the year,...
