Sticky Thread Sticky: DON'T LOOK PAST the BASICS

From what I've been reading in this forum for the past several years---and it's getting worse, not better---most posters here are, for some reason, missing the basics of fat loss, and instead, are looking for some magic bullet, or worse, putting their faith in some TV or youtube guru, or some...

Question How much weight can I lose in a year as an obese person?

I currently weigh 144.5kgs/319 pounds and one my new years resolutions is to lose weight. I am wondering what is the recommended and most likely amount of weight I will lose in a year if I stay consistent with dieting and keeping a 500 calorie deficit? Could I go from 144.5kg to under 80kg?

Unhappy Loose skin or just fat? [Pics Included]

So I've been cutting for a little over 4 months now and I'm seeing great results. My physique looks pretty lean and tight, for the most part, when I'm standing straight. However, when I bend over my tummy forms these unattractive ripples. Not sure if it's loose skin or a final layer of fat. I...

How feasible is it to run a small surplus?

Been trying to recomp and I've made progress for some time but my pressing movements have started to plateau while my pulls and leg work are doing fine. I am around 18-20 percent bodyfat so I cannot do a "proper" bulk but I don't have enough muscle mass to cut down to. I'm in the early intermediate...

How long do you think you can keep a caloric surplus?

Well I haven't been here in a while, had to make a new account. How long do you think you can keep a pocket full of cals before your body decides to adapt? I've been going low Mon-Thurs (I guess like psmf) and using the extra calories Fri - Sun. I was busy af last weekend and left 700 on the...

Question Questions about calories in vs calories off

I have a question that i kinda fear there is no real answer to. How do I figure out what I am burning caloricly during my workout? I dont think you can set a static amount like 185lb bench burns x calories per rep, as I can do reps of it no problem, but my buddy can do a 1 rep or maybe 2 reps for...

Thought I was bulking, just put on fat

I used to go to the gym every day and train for 1-2 hours. Since COVID shut 24hr Fitness down, I haven't had a gym to go to besides an apartment gym I sneak into. I thought the time away from my gym would be a good time to bulk, so I started eating everything, sweets, tons of pasta, etc. I ended up...

Decrease in muscle size - real muscle or just water/glycogen

Hi, I lost a few pounds recently, and while I know a good chunk of it should have been fat (my waist did decrease), my muscle measurements also went down. The thing is, my strength isn't much lower than it was before I lost weight, as I did still keep up some training. My body fat is close to...

Eating below TDEE but not losing weight

Hey everyone, I'm 24 y/o, 6'0, and weigh 180 lbs. I go to the gym 5 days/week and follow a workout plan. I typically do cardio for 15 mins each day. Besides the 90 mins I spend at the gym, the rest of the day is pretty sedentary. I recently had my body fat measured and it was found to be 24%...
