(Newbie Gains) Will I lose fat on a caloric surplus?

I’m a 6’3 tall skinny fat dude who has never lifted before (I’m 24yrs old). I decided to do a body recomp but i’ve been told that as a newbie I don’t need to focus on cutting because I’d lose fat anyways. So if i’m in a caloric surplus, let’s say 200 calories more, will I still lose fat?

I use to weigh at my heaviest 511lbs and was able to loose quite a bit of weight over a year got down to 368lbs and felt alot better but over the last year or so i got back up to 400lbs but never climbed back to that 500lb mark so im proud of keeping that off..but now id like to hit the gym again...

Are ultra-low calorie diets ok when consuming enough protein?

So for example, I take a protein shake that serves 42g of protein for 240 calories. I used a calculator to get that my body requires 90-300g of protein a day. Not saying its what I would do... but technically... why not just buy 3 shakes at 720 calories and 126g of protein? Anything wrong...
