Sticky Thread Sticky: Learning to lift on your own Phase 1

Phase 1 Body Weight Squats This is pretty straight forward, but here are a couple things to keep in mind. Start with your stance shoulder width and you toes pointed out slightly. Your knees must be able to move out to the side (follow your toes) this necessary for your hips to rotate...

What does "press" mean in a lifting routine?

I am new to lifting vocabulary and lifting too of course. I've seen the word "press" in a lifting routine. I was not sure what it meant, does it mean a bench press? Shoulder press? I've seen this more than once in workout programs. Here is an example: trainingiqcom/warm-up . In the "SPECIFIC...

Starting to get serious about lifting

I got into lifting late in life, but want to get the most out of it while staying healthy. I’m 35, and started lifting seriously 6 months ago. Been working on my diet, and tried a few different workout plans, but I feel like I’m not getting my full potential. Where can I find a good workout...

Deadlift Grip Strength

I thought I had decent grip strength before I started to do deadlifts. Turns out, not so great. I regularly use hand grippers/crushers and twist roller for grip strength. I spend a lot of time on pull ups and can hang from a bar for around 2 minutes max. I also hang from the bar for 3 sets of 1...

Weightlifting Shoe Reviews

These are a couple of reviews that I've written up. I posted this on crossfit.com a while back, but have since updated it. Since there is such a wide spread of brands and price ranges, I wanted to do a write up of the pros and cons of each shoe that I've owned and lifted in so hopefully this will...

Deadlift form check

So yesterday I managed 1 max rep which was 100kg. I'm super happy with how my progress is going I'm clearly getting stronger. I know my form was horrible in this video, my form isn't usually like that, so I'll put it down to the weight as it broke my form quite easily. Previously to this I was...

Posterior delt issues

I’m transitioning from a power lifting routine to Oly lifts. On my jerk, I’m having some posterior delt discomfort. This doesn’t occur in strict OHP or any other shoulder work. Sometimes it occurs during snatches but not as often. Any ideas what may be causing it? Poor form, muscles not use to the...
