Forum: Olympic Lifting

Discuss Olympic lifting and your personal programs.

Sticky Thread Sticky: Learning to lift on your own Phase 1

Phase 1 Body Weight Squats This is pretty straight forward, but here are a couple things to keep in mind. Start with your stance shoulder width and you toes pointed out slightly. Your knees must be able to move out to the side (follow your toes) this necessary for your hips to rotate...

Olympic lifts in D-1 College Football?

How horrendous is the form at the collegiate level? I'm going to Clemson University next year. Supposedly, this school has an excellent strength training coach (for football) named Joey Batson. However, the numbers just don't add up. In 2006, the "Strength All-Americans" were Dustin Fry on...

Please Critique My Lifts (Updated Weekly)

I've decided that I want to dedicate a part of my training to learning the Olympic lifts in addition to the slow movements. I will post videos of parts of my training sessions in hopes that some of the forum regulars (e.g. madaozeki, raffiki, JLC, etc.) can pop in and give me some suggestions. I'll...

Learning the Olympic Lifts

Saw this set of PDFs describing how to learn/coach the snatch and C&J. It looks like a pretty good resource that I hadn't seen mentioned here before. Seems to cover the basics for those interested in learning the lifts. Coaching Optimal Technique in the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk by Bob...

Help Learning the Power Clean

Hey guys. I'm not a regular in this section, but I thought you all would be among the most knowledgeable about the power clean. I just started learning it on my own a few weeks ago, beginning with the jump. I've been reading up on it and watching videos online, but it's still really awkward when...

Bar Placement on Squats

Sorry for this overly pendantic question, but I tried doing Olympic style squats with just the bar last week and it didn't feel very good, so I want to make sure I'm holding the bar correctly. I haven't seen clear examples of bar placement, so I took my own pictures to illustrate. High Bar The...

Amazing documentary about Chinese Weightlifters

This is a documentary about Chinese weightlifters preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. It's in Chinese, but it's the lifting you want huh? It shows a lot of their life before the games, and in the later parts, some crazy world-record breaking lifts. It's roughly 45 minutes long, but so...

What's up guys? I have never been to this sub-forum but would like to start doing the olympic lifts (at least the C&J). I don't even know where to being as for incorporating them into my workouts. I have too many questions. How often to do these lifts? Set/rep scheme? Do power cleans (which I...

romaleos 2?

I have a pair on order from east bay, but besides them and rogue, no one else carries them. I was googling them earlier and ran across a few discussions that Nike stopped making them and rogue, bought a huge supply? I can't even find them directly on Nike s website. I just thought it was odd. Any...

Knee Pain

Hi everyone, For the last 6 weeks, I've been experiencing pain above my knee caps and sometimes pain that feels as if it is coming from the center of my right knee. Additionally, there's been some soreness/pain in the joints of my left ankle, and now I'm starting to develop what almost feels...

Wrist Flexibility?

I started olympic lifting today, did some push presses and jerks but fast realized i just couldnt rack the bar on my shoulders and immediately press/jerk. Is this a problem? Will this go away as I become comfortable racking it, or should i do something about it?

Bulking vs Constant Weight?

So I was recently wondering whether or not, for an 85kg lifter who is relatively new but wants to compete @ 85, I should bulk up and then cut down, or just stay at 85kg LEAN and just maintain and gain strength.

I have (in my home gym) an olympic barbell, but not a barbell meant specifically for Olympic weightlifting. Is this a big deal? The collars spin pretty well

I want to incorporate power cleans into my routine but I have a few q's about proper technique. Please forgive my ignorance here guys. I did look at the stickies on top. When bringing the bar up, it looks like your supposed to hit the bar with your hips, correct? All videos I've seen it looks...

Degenerated Disks

So I just had an x-ray done of my spine and i have at least 4 disks that are starting to degenerate. Needless to say I'm pretty upset. The doctor says that it was probably caused by all the weightlifting. But whether or not weightlifting was the cause, he says it certainly will not make it any...

Jerk Problems

I have not been able to make a heavy jerk at all for the past three weeks. When I look at the video my front foot comes down first when I split, pushing me out from underneath the bar, and I end up losing the weight forward. I have tried focusing on not having my front foot touch first, but it...
