Importance of Oly Lifting Shoes... question!

so.. really how important or olympic lifting shoes? i have been oly lifting seriously for about 9 months , and have seen significant gains both in form and weight. but, now that i have been approaching heavier weights and such , i've noticed my form suffers greatly. for example, whenever i go over...

from the knees

I'm told again and again by my coach to explode from the knees. That's just a given. One thing that randomly crossed my mind is HOW to do it. For example, you can start bent at the knees and the hips, keeping your torso as upright as possible, like the top portion of a squat. Or you could...

deadlift frequency

i know its not an oly lift, but i wanted this discussion to be specifically with you guys. now typically what i hear(at least on this site) is that deadlifts are so taxing that you should only do them once a week, and some people even do them every other week. has anyone ever tried something...

Knee Sleeves?

I train in olympic lifting and I've been looking at getting a good pair of knee sleeves to help preserve my knees. While I've never had any knee injuries, I'm not getting any younger, and I figure this would be a good way to support my knees and prevent problems in the future. Can any of you...

Working with an injury

Would it be a dumb idea to continue olympic lifting with a pulled groin? Is there anyway I could compromise? I have nationals coming up next month and I really can't take any more time off then I have or I won't get the 105 kg snatch I've been aiming for there. :[ And how long does it...

Two questions about Lifting

I've been O lifting for roughly a month now so I'm still a beginner in every sense. I just had several questions for you more experienced guys. Does wrist flexibility increase overtime? I'm having a bit of trouble catching the bar during cleans because of this And can someone give me some...

potential

I just started researching olympic lifting and have become very interested. I have never really done squats or cleans before. As a matter of fact yesterday was my first day doing these lifts. I feel pretty confident that I can power clean 200 and that I can push press at least 200. I have mainly...

Couple of questions: hook grip and coaching

First: What do people typically wrap their thumb with when using the hook grip? Is it even necessary for me to worry about that at this point? I'm really not lifting much weight on any exercise that requires a hook grip because I'm coming back from a knee injury. Second: There's a coach in my...

Question Difference between a drop snatch and a snatch balance

Is there one? Is it two different terms for the same lift? It would seem so from viewing youtube videos (not the best source, I know). Thanks in advance. :)

Power cleans vs full cleans, from a muscle-building standpoint

So, which is better, in terms of just muscle building in the traps/back? Cleans from the floor, or power cleans? Most people can go heavier on full cleans and a heavier load will produce better muscle-building results (as well as strength/power), but in power cleans the whole movement is...

Building a base or doing Olympics?

I've been into lifting for a few months now and I really want to start doing the Olympic lifts for the total body benefits. I'm wondering if I should just stick to the basics for longer or build a routine based off Olympics and incorporate the basics as needed.

Over Head Squats

I was wondering if people who start out overhead squatting generally have the most trouble with flexibility and their numbers go up quickly as they get more flexible. I tried overhead squatting yesterday and was having too much trouble with only 65 pounds(going ATG) so I had to go down to 55lbs. ...

Log Cleans

Anyone here do log cleans? Because of wrist injuries, I do not have the flexibility to rack a regular clean, but with a log, I would have a neutral grip and could rack the log on my chest without needing my elbows too high and my wrists bent back like a gestapo torture method. I was wondering...

Playin with Squat Jerks

I have a groin injury that's been buggin me for a while, and split jerks really seem to aggravate it - but the squat lifts don't. So I thought I'd do some experimenting with Squat Jerks today 3NdoMzD1Fo0 I didn't go super heavy, just a little more than bodyweight. But, I think they might...

Dropping Weights

Alright what do you guys do? We have some rubber coated plates, but no bumpers. The platform in our gym is really bad at absorbing the shock. And its a complete pain to slowly let it down. Even 50 kgs is extremely loud when dropped.

Wearing a belt for power cleans?

Just curious how many people wear a weight belt for power cleans. I've been experiencing some slight discomfort in my lower back lately when doing them, not so much like squats or deadlifts but it's noticeable. My form isn't perfect but it's pretty good, and I don't attempt to do weight that I...

Length of legs bothering me

Whenever I see people doing atg squats, their butt doesn't go as far as the heels. But when I practise atg squats, my upperlegs are quite longer than my lower legs making my butt stick out more. This means I have to compensate by doing more of a good morning type squat because if my back is more...
