Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Over 50 guys. How many times a week do you squat?

I use to be able to squat 3 days a week but recently my knees feel like they just can not handle it any more even rotating in medium light and heavy days. How many of you over 50 still squat 3 days a week with no problem.

Protein supplement choices

I am a 44yo male. I have lifted weights for over 20 years but had a slow down in the last 8. I am back at the gym more regularly and hoping to bulk again. I am 5'7 174ish and I was hoping someone in a similar situation could suggest a supplement in the market to help with that. Thanks

Blood Pressure

I have been dealing with elevated blood pressure for a while now, but last week I went to donate blood and the nurse took my BP and it registered at 180/110, so I am going to go seem my GP tomorrow and most likely get put on medication before something explodes. Anyone on BP meds? At first I was...

I've actually made some gains! but for what at this age?

I made a post way back in 2005, complaining a bit and probably asking for advice. Everything in that post has remained true for the following 15 years up until the past few months. But somehow I've finally made gains. At 47 years old, I've finally made a real and noticeable gain. One of the replies...

Flaxseed Oil Side Effects

I curious to know if any of you have ever gotten headaches from taking flaxseed oil. My girlfriend started taking it (at my urging) to help lower her cholesterol. She started getting headaches at about 3-4 weeks out so she stopped taking it. I figured rather than waste all those capsules, I'd start...

Sugar "bulking"

Just sharing an idea I am going to try. I am long past the day where I can measure 'progress'. I have to look at my training from a yearly standpoint and even then, things are hard to see. Looking back at this past year, I essentially did nothing. My accomplishment was staying in the gym...

Hook grip for deads rocks?!

Today after weightlifting workout I did some clean style deadlifts and some chest work. Since Im training oly lifting, I used no belt, raised heel shoes and hook grip. I was really surprised I could comfortably hold mid 4s with no discomfort. Definitely recommend folks try it. Nice alternative...

Cannot get comfortable in bed!

This is a problem that has plagued me for the last year or so since lifting: I cannot get comfortable in bed at night. All of my life I've slept on my front with my hands under the pillow, but now when I do this at least one of my arms tends to go numb (pins and needles). I also like sleeping...

Arms - 50

Hi all I just turned 50, I have been between jobs over the past two months and missed the gym, did my head in. I lost a hell of a lot of size particularly on my arms. However before that I noticed my arms were not growing and they are not as big as they were a year or so ago. Not sure what going...

Hammer Strength: Who Uses Them?

I typically workout at home, but I do accompany my wife to her gym as a guest on occasion (PF) where I use either an incline bench or seated OHP on one of the Smith machines. She's been a member for over 18 months, and until tonight, I've simply ignored the Hammer Strength machines. Tonight I gave...

Who's got big without EVER getting fat?

I don't want to hear from 185lb children, you are not big, no one outside of the lifting community even notices your physique at all ;) But has anyone got really big, as in look big in clothes, probably 250+lb presuming 6' tall, without getting a bit chubby on the way? Basically what I'm...

Racing my brother to pull 500

I posted today's top set on Facebook and ended up challenging my brother to race to 500. He's been lifting for years, is 6 ft tall, weighs 200 lbs, and is already at 475. But he's a hardgainer and uses himself as an example that even the scrawny kids can get jacked. I'm only at 455 and much...

Spinal Stenosis

Anybody on here have spinal stenosis (degeneration of the bone in the back causing pinching of the nerves)? If so what path did you take - Pain managment or surgery? Why did you choose what you chose and did it help? Are you back to 100% now? After how long? I know this was a lot of questions,...

Lessons learned in a decade of lifting

Thought I'd close the decade by sharing a few things I've learned, many of them right here on this very site. Just over 10 years ago, I was a smoking, boozing, lost person. A whopping 6' 148lbs. Through this journey I've learned how to love myself and appreciate all that life has given me. A lot...

How to have more energy and motivation?

Hey guys, I have to post this question in this section of the forums because my body just does not feel good anymore. I am currently 31 going on 32 years old in June. Caffeine no longer a friend.

Who else as they got older found out that caffeine just doesn't agree with them anymore? I was taking IN-Kaged for a few years as a intra-workout, and at times during or after I would feel like sh*t. Then I would have a coffee in the morning and just feel really off. So I stopped the...

Doing the minimum (...or what the heck happened to grubman?)

It would be extremely arrogant of me to have expected anyone to notice I haven’t been “active” on the forums for 3 1/2 months. But this morning I took the first pictures in that time, and felt an “update” and “explanation” might be interesting. So, while I have many other interests, Lifting...

Motivation Question

I know the obvious answer is everyone is different, but I started working out and changing my eating habits big time March 2019. I was rolling along, slimmed up, noticeable muscle gain, etc.. feeling great, feeling better than I have in so long. The cold came along and all of a sudden slowly I...

38F, new to lifting! Newbie questions (Oh no!)

So at 38 years old, I decided I needed to change my life. I've recently lost 35lbs doing keto diet and light exercises. Now I am stuck at my current weight and decided to kick it up a notch. or several notches. I've hired a Personal Trainer, and he threw me on the Barbells. I've never, ever...

Fat, Older, Tired and Work in A Factory. How Do I Fix This?

I'm way over 35. I'll be turning 46 in March. I wish there were an over 45 forum, I looked but didn't find one. I hear a lot about it is really hard if not impossible to build muscle as a middle-aged man. To make matters worse I work in a factory on an assembly line, sometimes 12 hours a day. If...

Cement Mixer Knees

To start, I'm 43, severly overweight with edema in my legs (fluid retention), and while I've had a desk job since September 2016, I had consistantly worked retail from late August of 1992 through early June of 2016 with jobs bookending my time in retail also having me doing a ton of walking. I also...

Kumail Nanjiani gets ripped in 9 months

Update: it was actually 12 months, not 9 To prep for starring in “The Eternals”, he went from 150 lbs and 20% bf to 174 and 10% bf in nine months. Of course he had a full time trainer and a dedicated meal plan paid for by Disney. Still, incredibly impressive. He’s 41. He stated there was no...
