BMI nonsense?

I remembered the first tool I used to asses my fitness level (or lack of) when I was really fat, was something called a BMI calculator (Body Mass Index). That seems to be the standard for evaluating height/weight ratio in general medicine practice. According to that, when I started I had a BMI of...

Anyone With Shoulder Arthritis?

Learned recently that I have osteoarthritis in my left shoulder, probably from an old (non-lifting) injury many years ago. Still managing to lift pretty well, but the issue is likely to progress. Anyone out there dealing with this? Any special approach that's worked for you?

Cardio: Is walking sufficient?

Hey guys, Quick question..I lift weights 5 days a week and eat clean. My question is in re: to cardio. If I walk 30 minutes in the AM (walk to work), and 30 minutes in the PM (after work back home) 5 x per week, will this be enough in the cardio department? I've always heard it's best to do...

What is your one tip to staying fit above 40

I'm 39 and have gotten back to decent shape since a slipped disc and nerve damage 5 years ago. I lift weights and do cardio, but I don't lift really heavy anymore. I do use excellent form, which I didn't in my 20s. What I find the most challenging is losing weight. It's so slow and its...

Exhaustion, Age, Exercise,or Sleep

I’ve been back in the gym lifting about 5 days a week and an hour at a time for nearly 10 weeks now. I have found that I do get tired, not always rested after waking, and in some cases taking a short nap between getting off work, the having dinner before hitting the gym. Not sure if it’s being...

Question What is normal testosterone for a 46 year old?

I tried looking this up but I see different opinions on this everywhere. I'm 46 and just had a basic blood test done that included total test level. Mine is at 354 ng/dL. That sounds pretty low to me. Where should I be, and where can I be? I've heard Tongkat Ali and Fadogia have been shown to...

How to break the cycle??

I have been a life-long yo-yo dieter. It's been a vicious cycle: I decide that I hate how I look and want to get fit, then I get excited about my "new life, new me" and lose weight, but ultimately burn out and gain all the weight back and sometimes more. I'm looking to break the cycle. Has anyone...

Curious why some people look very charismatic, while others looks too tight, or infle

I am talking about the aesthetic look some people have when they have gained a lot of muscle mass, maybe in 220lbs+ lean muscle category, while other's look too inflexible or unaesthetic and not as attractive. Why is that? why do some people look more charismatic?. eg; I love lean pro wrestlers...

knees make crunchy sounds on light deadlift or sometime walking up stairs

I'm 44 I've lifted off and on since my 20s but have been mostly off from about age 30 until this year. I also did a lot of running stairs in my 20s for cardio. This year I've been pretty well just doing upper body stuff except when I started out back in june, back then I went fairly light on...

Check on family and friends that live alone.

Covid19 is spreading very fast. Hopefully it will be mild. My wife had it last year. She had mild symptoms for a week then her fever shot up and she started having trouble breathing so I took her to the hospital. At that point she was very tired and confused and did not want to get out of bed. ...
