Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Improve Your Overhead Squat

It’s great to see non-Weightlifters perform this lift. It’s a great way to develop core strength. And it looks badass. “If you want to get good at something, you must do that something.” There is a lot of truth to this ^^ statement,. I don’t deviate from it if I don’t have to. But there...

Shoulder pops, snaps, feel it almost dislocating?

Hey guys, I'm an on again / off again lifter, been lifting since I was 13 and noticed at a young age that I would always have shoulder weakness and it seems to feel like it is separating during some lifts. I haven't trained much in the past couple years, but for the past 3 months or so been going...

Not Twerking! Started this thread to prevent a hijack in Halbrust's, and it seemed an interesting topic on its own.

StrongLifts 5x5 with Arm Work

Can I get opinions on the StrongLifts 5x5 with Arm Work program? Like I've said before, I'm trying to find a program that works "for me". Fierce 5 is great, but it just wasn't fitting what I want to do. I was looking at StrongLifts 5x5 and found the sub routine that includes chinups and dips. I...

Trying something different, what do you guys think of this routine

Hey guys as most of you here know (at least I hope you do) I am not new to the game, but after several months off I am getting back to training and wanted to mixed things up a bit. So here is what I am doing, tell me what you think; Mondays and Thursdays Squats Bench OHP Tuesdays and...

How much running is too much?

I've read that running interferes with growth if you do it too much (and not even raising your calorie intake fully offsets those effects). Anyone have a rule of thumb for acceptable lengths of steady state cardio? I'm running about 45 minutes a day and slowly raising that amount.

Back at it

6'3" 320lbs, I have a beer belly but my shoulders and arms are starting to come along. I don't have a specific plan, I just read through all of them and pieced exercises together. My question is about my beer belly, will hitting the weights help me lose it or do I need to do cardio as well? Like I...

How often do you use a straight Olympic Bar?

I was just thinking about this today. I used to use a regular old straight bar for almost everything from bicep curls to benches, to deadlifts, to presses, and everything in-between. Over the years I've found more efficient ways to work some muscles, and after I hurt my shoulder and bicep, ...

5x5 with longer rest or 4x5, 3x5?

Have had a few stop starts at weights over the past few years. Got back at it a few months ago doing SS 5x5. Things beginning to feel heavy so planning ahead. I'm having to start to take a minute to 90 seconds rest between some sets but not all the time. So i'm trying to plan ahead to what...

Scapula issue

Been having an issue for a long time. Pressing movement have always felt unnatural and O just can’t seem to progress in bench. Even things like rows or pull downs feel awkward. Guy at my gym the other day asked me to get down and do some of these scapular push-ups for him and he just kind of went...

Do your kids exercise

I've lost 100lbs over the last 11 months and probably the best thing that has happened is the interest that my son (7) has showed in the whole process. He's eating better "with dad". He also loves to be in the garage when I lift/exercise. He wants to also do something. Obviously I'm not going...

Workout Apps - help needed

So I have used Gym Buddy since 2008, but the recent iOS update on my iPhone made it inoperable. It's no longer in the app store. Keeping your mind???

How do you all keep your mind right? I struggle daily with being to small, to fat, that guys bigger, etc. Most days it becomes my motivation not letting anyone beat me at anything, but sometimes it seems to shut me down. I can't stand the idea of not being able to "be the best" but it's just...

How do I go about getting bigger?

After some advice here folks. I'm at the stage now where I can start to see my abs, I am in pretty good shape for 2 years lifting and considering I was 230lbs down to 170lbs at 6ft tall. However, although I am in fairly good shape I am small. Take my arms for example, I wear a small fitbit bit, I...

Interesting Restaurant Just Opened In My Area - Protein House

I ended up driving by a new place that opened up by me so figured I would give it a shot. It's called "The Protein House", which is a bit on the "bro" side in my opinion but surprisingly good food. Super lean/healthy style place that is geared toward people who eat healthy and work out. Most of...

Muscle Memory

First off I want to say that I am a 20 year old college student, not over 35 but I decided to post this because I was looking for some feedback on muscle memory, and I don't think anyone in the younger forums could give me any accurate information. Some context: I began power lifting at 15 years...

What is the maximum useful surplus?

I cruised to a 235 bench which was not at all the case 10 years ago (and I stopped for 9 years). My bulk numbers were a bit off and I realized I averaged a 700 calorie daily surplus. Most would probably say that's too much, and I think they're right. But the thing is I've never been able to keep...

How does your look change as you get older?

With the general population I see a huge decline in aesthetics, since bodyfat levels begin to run away, and muscle mass was never built to begin with. Thankfully we don't have nearly as much of an issue with those major aesthetic factors. But age affects everyone. I imagine BBers will still see...
