Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Building my first home gym

After belonging to my local gym for almost 5 years it’s time to build my own gym. I did some research and picked up a Body solid GPR370 rack, a Powerblock adjustable bench, a Rogue Echo bar and 350LBS of run of the mill steel plates. I already have a set of adjustable dumbbells. I feel like I...

Hyaluronic acid....?

The greatest thing since sex, drugs and rock and roll....or, snake oil? I hear it hyped now as the better suppliment compared to condroitin/glucosamine/MSN. I had the stuff shot into my left knee 3 years ago when the doc said sorry no more miniscus to repair. I was told that I had to have a...

Rotator cuff pain

Last few weeks I’ve been getting rotator cuff pain in my right shoulder, particularly with pull downs, but was also there on chest press and flies last night. The pull downs really irritate it. Should I forget pull downs until it stops hurting, or go light?

Something Different, AtG Squats as a quad "finisher"

About a month ago, I started doing something slightly "different", and I like it so much I decided to share. I'm not declaring any science, claiming any results, or boasting about something new and revolutionary...just that I like it. (skip to final paragraph if you don't want to read all this). ...

THE......Definitive Runner's Thread!

That's right, it's time to share some respect for what some of us do to; burn fat, improve cardio health, or just want to get a runner's high :). The previous thread went sideways, with a guy like me trying to keep it alive these past months :). Not the right way to do it!. Here's what we'd...

HDL Level?

Every year at work we have to get a "biometric screening" for our health insurance. When the Nurse Practitioner was going over my results, she seemed as if having an HDL number in the optimal range (i.e., 60 or higher) was not too common. Many websites indicate how to increase your HDL, and below...

Hit Plateau, Now What?

First off, where is the mid 20's section? Not a teen and not 35... But anyways, I seem to have stalled out. Started lifting a little over a year ago, went from 149 to roughly 182 right now and just cant seem to get past where I am. About a month ago, I made a huge change to my diet, eating...

Workout Apps - help needed

So I have used Gym Buddy since 2008, but the recent iOS update on my iPhone made it inoperable. It's no longer in the app store. Unhappy Lower back injury

Had a lower back injury today while cable rowing (probably in a bad form). It was bad, I heard a "crack" and couldn't even get up but I can walk around now and sit up. This is the second time this happens to me (last time it was worse, while carrying some water boxes). I'm very disappointed as I...

Gout/The Doc/Lifting weights

When I turned 30 I started having gout attacks ALOT. Well, at first was not sure what it was but 1.5-2yrs later finally sent to a Rheumatologist and he puts me on meds (Allopurinol and Colchicine (SPx2)). And over the past 2 years or more he keeps telling me to loose weight so last year I lost...

2 split question - What to do on moderate day

I've been lifting aggressively again for 2 years after about 10 years off. I started with Canditos beginner plan and then did Stronglifts 5x5. I'm currently doing a 2 day upper lower split. About 2 months ago I started doing 10 sets of 3 reps for my main lift to really focus on strength and then...

Proper Form - Feedback on Vids

Hi Everyone, I've been lifting for a couple of years now and I'm making some progress which has been great. But I haven't had a lot of opportunity to get feedback on proper form as I workout at home. I recently tested my 1RM on a few lifts and recorded it (not the best vid quality). I would love...
