Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Burning Hamstring advice?

I re-started my workout after being out of the game for about 6 months, I did compound exercises to failure. About 1/2 way through my Hamstrings started burning like crazy, they felt very tight; I pressed through my workout anyway. And yes, I did warmup exercises before workout, and stretches and...

I am doing intermittent fasting...and LOVING it

As much as you can love calorie restriction ;) I have always held that IF is a good strategy for some in cal restriction, but it was not for me. I am not even speaking to the purported benefits, like better nutrient partitioning, insulin sensitivity...etc. I just never thought it would...

Pumped all day?????

Is there really a product out there that gives you a pumped up look all day. I am proud of my after workout look, but within an hour or so, I go back to looking like plain old me. After I workout I have that pump throughout my entire body and actually look pretty good in the mirror in my opinion....

Smolov Bench Experiment

When I first started Powerlifting 3 years ago I was a one trick pony. I had a good Bench but had to learn to Squat and Deadlift. At my first meet I took a National record and later a World by my second meet for Bench Press. Every meet since, I’ve PR’d on either Squat and/or Deadlift, but Bench...

leg strength for backpacking

I backpack in very steep terrain (e.g. Grand Canyon) a lot and am trying to figure out the best workout. Also, I'm 65yo. In the past, I've trained by climbing tall staircases (100+ steps) wearing a heavy backpack (48lb on my 170lb frame, but actually hiking I rarely carry much more than 40lb). ...

My home gym...new level of insanity!

After looking for over a year, I finally added a standing calf raise to my home gym! Yes, a big heavy welded machine that moves a weight about 6 inches up and down, that works out one tiny muscle, my worst muscle, that is primarily determined by my crappy calf genetics anyway...and I couldn't be...

So, I am 37 and have decided I need to get stronger. I would like a basic program that I can complete with a basic bench and dumbells and a barbell. Nothing too complicated for a start, just want to get into it. End goal is just to live better, be able to function at life. I need to lose...

I think I got belly fat from Serious Mass

Hi everyone. I'm 36 years old, 6'2" (189cm) 93Kg. I started the "Shortcut to size" program by Jim Stoppani August last year (I was 84Kg back then) because I wanted to bulk up. I took ON Whey Protein and Serious Mass (2 scoops per day, 1 morning, 1 afternoon) to aid my goal. Now I have definitely...

Where do you get a hernia

Hi really got some confusion as to where a hernia can erupt I know the common place is the groin and it starts with burning but I have nothing of the sort like that. When I do crunches or any kind of ab exercise sometimes this happens not all the time but most, it starts with excruciating pain...

Met with a Personal Trainer and discovered I was making many errors

After 30 years I decided to get back into weightlifting. After reading a lot about proper form and avoiding injury, I decided to meet with a personal trainer to make sure I am doing things properly and learn how to do a dead lift. Well I learned I was doing a lot of my current exercises...

43, female, over weight and started a physical job

Hi, I am new to the forum and just wanted to have an idea of what to expect and see if I am on the right track for my goals. I'm 5'3 and was 160 lbs when I started a physical job about 6 weeks ago. I move constantly for about 5-8 hours a day, walking, moving things (not really heavy) and doing...

Anybody have focus issues, related to workouts only?

Have my own equipment, and zero motivation issues. My lack of focus is limited to my workouts, and unsure why. Lifted years ago, was younger (15 years) plus used a stack no longer available, had no issues then. No pre-workout other than a double dose of coffee currently. My mind is all over the...

Can 5Kg dumbbells increase muscle size?

First my apologies for the newbie question. Can a pair of 5Kg dumbbells be used to increase muscle size in someone that didn't weightlift before and has very limited muscular mass and a slim build? Mostly taking about arms and maybe a bit of shoulders. Thanks in advance for your help.

Eating is the hard part not the lifting.

Yes we all know that to get big you need to eat big, my problem is now at 47 years old I don't have a big appetite. I'm still a 3 meal a day guy and anymore I have to force feed myself. I have officially 1 year under my belt of weight training as I was a full time runner for the past 15 years. I...

Sets and reps for over 60

Hi guys, I'm 61 and just starting. My experience? I've read several books. I'm looking to something like what Mike Menzer wrote in High Intensity Training. What Does Age Have to Do with Bodyfat Percentage?

Question ~ Grumpy Old Man ~

Greetings fit people! I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I turned 50 this year and over the past several years I seem to have little zest for life. I work out and eat fairly well but there's no joy, period. I read when we age our bodies don't produce serotonin like we were in our...
