Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official O35 Squat Competition Thread

OK, some discussions in the open forums and in PMs have resulted in this thread. The Deadlift thread has been a lot of fun and inspired some great lifting and improvement, so we're going to do the same with squats. Post your intention to join the comp, and post your entries with a clear video...

Personal trainer problems

I recently started working with a personal trainer. We meet once a week, and during our sessions he is great: Very knowledgeable and professional, pinpoints all my weaknesses, gives good feedback... all is good. But he constantly ignores my emails and is completely unavailable outside of our...

can't seem to lose the gut fat

Hi. My question was I can't seem to lose the belly. Now I'm not the most active or work out that often. But I do lift on my Wal-Mart bench press and just drink isapro shakes. I ride my bike and walk a lot. I'm 5'6 155lbs and my diet really isn't the best but the thing is I don't eat too much....

38 with Nutrition Questions

Hello all. So I'm 38 and going onto 39 this year. I'm pretty much on target to get into the best shape of my life. BUT, I have questions regarding nutrition. Firstly, I am attempting to get lean. So far, I've integrated elements of the Fierce Five into my workout. Only thing I am not doing at...

Pull up question

Hi all. Before my question, some info that may help with answering. 1. I have been training about 2 months 2. My weight is pretty constant, but I am growing muscle judging by the 1/4 inch already on my arms (btw is that decent progress in 2 months?), and photographs of my back show a...

38 and first time ever trying to cut. Any advice?

Hi, I don't really post much, although I've been an avid reader of these forums for a while. A long story short. In February I found out I had high blood pressure. I'm now on meds and following a low sodium diet and my BP is around 120/70 upon waking so that's in order. Anyways, that's not...

Been playing with reverse grip benching

I have been looking to rotate in some new stuff into my workouts. I came across reverse grip benching. It activates the tris and upper chest quite well. I am going to replace my CGBP with these for a while. This will give my elbow tendons a little break. I was pushing too much weight...

5 things I learned from my first real injury

I’ve had plenty of little strains and pulls throughout the years, so it came to me as an utter shock when my first real injury crept up on me slowly. It started as a lingering pain in the biceps of both arms (I assumed was just pulled muscles) moved into the shoulders. After about a month, the...

The gyms in 'Pumping Iron'

Sorry if this isn't in the right area, but I thought us 'over 35's would be more interested in the old movie 'Pumping Iron'. Just wondered if either of the gyms shown are still in use today? Golds gym is obviously still open but the modern version looks much bigger than the one shown in the...

Arm size vs. ranking on

Have a question to the group about arm size vs. how you rank on According to that site, I am anywhere from intermediate to proficient on all my lifts. However my arms are still puny. My forearms flexed are 12" and my upper arm with bicep flexed is 13.5". Of...

Unhappy Testosterone levels

So I got my test results back yesterday and they said I was 334. Which is extremely low for someone 41 who works out IMO. 5th percentile is 319, 95th percentile is 936. And avg is 597. It's crazy to think I'm so low that I'm almost half of avg. I've always thought my gains came hard but now I...

Bad Sleep, Bad Gains??

Hi all, might sound like a silly question, but if I go through a pretty heavy, satisfying workout a couple of hours before I go to bed, then have a terrible nights sleep, is that going to have a negative effect on my bodies ability to repair those muscles?

Started Free Weights

Another post work out conditioning question

Dear members, just another conditioning question. Should post lifting conditioning be completely random, or planned as though you are working towards a goal? For example, rowing on a certain day, lets say every Mil press day on mondays, trying to hit a new 1000m PR...which is "training" IMHO....

38 in August. TIRED

I'm 38 this August. Seems like every 5 years on average I get back with the program and start eating right, exercising, and losing weight. I'm floating somewhere between slow-carb and ketogenic diet and combined with cardio and light weights 4-5 times/week, I'm down 46lbs in 19 weeks. I don't know...

Best time to take BCAA?

I tried to search this with little luck, so pardon my silly question. Does taking (additional, beyond what's in food and protien powders) BCAA make a difference? And if so, should I add them to my diet when I'm bulking (now) or dieting (come Jan)? Or is it not really necessary. I currently...
