Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Random / Working in

So does anyone else get pissed off when people ask to work in with you? I dont mean people hogging the machine, I mean like when you're only one or two sets in. Its particularity annoying when they are like 30% body fat and just generally look like ****. They act like not doing a set of what you're...

How to achieve 6 pack?

Hi, I'm working out for last one year now, however, unable to put on muscles. I'm getting leaner day by day. I'm 39 year old 163 cm male weighing 127 pounds. I have managed to get a V shape physique but still muscles are missing. My aim is to cut down body fat level so that my abs are visible and...

Question Round 2: Bringing it back. Pump is elusive..

Afternoon, my name is Corey, I live up in Maine and after a longer than planned hiatus I’m refocusing on my diet, health, physique, and general wellbeing. I’ve been in and out of the gym for 20+ years and I have a decent grasp on how I’d like to proceed with getting back into “better” shape. I’m...

Osteoathritis: Is it the end?

In the lead up to my last PL meet in Feb this year, I had my right knee blow up wickedly in the final week of prep. Being the stubborn idiot I am I did the meet anyway (new Bench and DL Prs, 112.5kg & 192.5kg respectively yay). The issue is that the knee is swollen, feels like either my VMO or...

New member, 50 yrs-old and down 51 lbs so far

I actually joined this forum in 2007 because I was about 40 years old, overweight and out of shape. But I never made a single post and now 11 years later the email tied to that username was no good so I created a new account. I have lost 20 or 25 lbs a couple times over the last 16 years but...

Question Keys to keeping a small waist as you get older?

I have noticed many people that keep fit get thicker muscular midsections as they age. How can one avoid it? What can you do to keep your waist small while training your core as you get older? Tips and suggestion welcome.

Deliberately took 6 weeks off

Per a Greg Nuckols thread, decided to take 6 weeks off. Tomorrow will be first day back. Goal was to try and reset rbe (repeated bout effect). The idea is to exceed max lifts that have been stalled for 2 years, excepting Deads. First 2 weeks will be nothing higher than rpe 8 while I reacclimate...

Slow progression/recovery after a while on fierce five

Just wanted to find out if anyone else is finding fierce five progression tough 35+ (I'm 40). With a couple of resets for illness/surgery, I've now been at this for a couple of years, and its led me down from 85 to 74kg (187 to 163lbs) at 6 foot, and maybe even a six pack with the right...

Sticking to BB Rows for the sake of time efficiency

I know that DB rows are probably better as a muscle builder due to better support, range of motion, etc. Do you guys think it's a fair difference though? Personally I row about 20% more (if I double the DB weight) which is a strong symbol to me that maybe it really is vastly superior as a movement....

Squats PR brag !!!!!! Beginners Take note.

95# for 8 reps = 108 1RM ok, it's the first time I ever did BB squats in my life. But for the record... that is my starting point. no vid, so I hope that you all will just take my word on the stat.

Bench press for tall guys

I'm 6'3 with 6'6 wing span. I don't have any triceps-specific exercises in my workout, although I have a lot of compound lifts that will work tri's. As the fat peels away, my tri's are one of the muscles I notice the most and my chest is probably the weakest area of my body. Is it a...

Been a while since I have been around, had 7 months of PT work on my shoulder and it continues, but lost all motivation to lift anything or follow the threads here when my whole upper body was off limits. Anyhow I let myself go pretty bad again (surprise lol) was back up to 248 in Dec and...

ROM of partials?

Hello Everybody (in my best Dr. Nick impression), At the gym yesterday, I watched a pair of guys doing partials on the incline bench press. They're ROM couldn't have been more than 3 inches. Their elbows didn't come close to a 90 degree angle. Seem to me a waste but then I realized I didn't...

Question How much creatine is too much?

I posted this question in the supplement forum and figured I'd post it here in case some of us "older" folks don't frequent the other forums. Conventional wisdom says you need 5g per day. Most people who take regular supplements do a pre WO drink and a post WO drink; both of these usually have...

Core control?

Hello everyone, I'm 37 years old..5'10 and in pretty good shape. No idea on my body fat percentage. My profile pic is me right now if I'm flexing really hard, if not I look like I have a beer gut. Thing is I've always had it.. I've been to a 6 pack flexed (I'm guessing 12 percent bf) before and...
