Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

When happens when you stop weight training?

Hey guys, I'm 26yo and planning to start weight training in 3 months or so, however I'm somewhat worried what will happen when I'll stop (lets face it, this day will come). I was wondering, what happens if at 35 if I stop exercising altogether? Assume that body fat is fairly low, and there...

51 today! 9 years under the rack!

I’m 51 today and I’ve been back in the gym for 9 years now. This is officially 1 year longer than I lifted in my teens and twenties so long ago...with no end in sight. On my birthday I like to reflect on what I learned over the last year (about lifting and my body), and I feel this year was...

Tried the "Fierce 5" work out..not sure if I'm feeling it.

So tonight I tried the "Fierce 5" work out for the novice -https: //forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=15967863. Ive been working out over 2 years and feel I have plateaued. I did start somewhat easy as far as weight, but it didn't seem to make me feel as I normally do on a work out night, I...

Cannot increase my 1RM on 5/3/1 before I need to cut again.

Sorry for the long post. I’m struggling here with how I should proceed. I am 40 years old & just under 5’8” tall. I have an extremely small frame with wrists measuring just 6” circumference. I currently weigh in at just under 130lb which does sound really light but if you look at my avi I don’t...

Being athletic or just having the outer shell for looks?

This observation I guess continues from a young age to an older guy. That one guy who looks amazing, but has not one athletic ability in his bone. I grew up playing sports, doing stuff, surfing, skimboarding, skateboarding, etc. Tossing the pig iron was always there but not a priority or an...

Honest Educated Critique of My Workout Scheme Please

Hey everyone, Let me be very honest up front. I've avoided this forum for a long time. Why? Because the responses I read are sometimes simply uneducated, vague and frankly stupid. I'm 38 years old now; a grown man with a wife and an 11 yr old. I'm looking for mature responses from those of us...

Progress Pics Documenting 3 years of Dedication at 51 years-old

In December I will be 3 full years in to this fitness journey (and I also will turn 52 in December). Was overweight so started working out at 49 years-old to lose weight and improve my cholesterol and blood pressure. The first year I accomplished my health goals so I continued to focus on fat loss...

Angry Age 33. Status: Tour Over for strength gains & muscle gains.

I feel like it's over to be honest. I go to failure, I work out 3 times a week, I am hepped up on pre workout And I still can't even push one rep more than last week or the week before and hell all it takes is one missed meal and a bad sleep and I can be down 10-15% on my lifts. Age 33,...

Where do I go from here?

Have gotten back into exercising after about four years of being sedentary. 5'11" and 183 pounds at the moment. Body fat is a bit over 20%. I am striving for total body fitness, both muscular and cardiovascular. The picture is not great quality. My goal is to increase my overall strength,...

Getting older - and fed up with getting injured!

As per the title, 6 months ago I injured my shoulder doing weighted dips, it's never been right since but I can work around it. 5 weeks ago I got tendinitis in my knee, and even after resting it for weeks it feels the same. Then on Tuesday this week I've strained a muscle around or inbetween...

Anyone use an inversion table

Anyone have and use one? What do you think about them? I am thinking about getting one. I have tightness sometimes in low back(had a herniated disc a couple years ago) and also in hips when I squat heavy and also up in my upper spine near shoulders/neck. Tight up there too a lot of times. ...

Fat for Five Years and Two Million Dollars

For all you hard-core athletes, consider this fictitious proposition. For five years, you must stop exercising. You may walk only when absolutely necessary. Those with labor-intensive jobs would not qualify for the opportunity. You must eat 4000 to 6000 calories per day. Your diet will be dictated...

Old But Not Done Yet!

Use to lift 3x/wk into my late 60's, I am now 72. BP was respectable but squat and dead lift not so much. Life intervened about 3 years ago and lifting stopped. I can now start lifting again with no physical restrictions. Available equipment: Power rack, 300# with cheap bar (Dicks), curl bar...

Hello!

Hi everyone. I've been a regular lurker on this site for roughly a year now and I just wanted to post and thank you all for your contributions to the site. The majority of these forums (and many lifting websites in general) really seems to skew towards oneupmanship and a general toxic vibe, but...

The Pec Fly

List number of years lifting, max weight and reps on the pec fly, your height and weight and chest size. Studies have shown the pec fly is 98% as effective as a standard bench press at working the pectoralis major and it also works some additional muscles as well. I started lifting at age 35. I...

Bulking beyond 25% Body Fat

I am 36 years skinny fat male. Working out in gym for 3 years running. My height is 174 cms (5'9 ft) When I started I was 93 kgs (204 lbs.) My trainer told me to do cardio and lose fat. I reached 74 kgs (162 lbs) after 7 months. However, I looked sick and horrible (lack of muscle mass or tone with...

Women as Male Health Destroyers?

Many men, athletes, the average Joe, and couch potatoes alike have a fear of being too thin. Obviously, athletes such as marathoners, middleweight and lightweight boxers, cyclists, and those who must be thin to succeed at their sport are a minority for whom being thin is an asset. Polls have...

Is forearm/wrist/elbow pain normal?

When can I realistically expect visible results?

Hi everyone! I’m 41 and the reason I ask this question is that whilst I trained a lot in my 20’s (was super fit my entire 20’s), a little in my early 30’s, but absolutely no weight training since my second child was born 8 years ago (trained until I was 8 weeks pregnant with her then stopped when I...
