Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Racing my brother to pull 500

I posted today's top set on Facebook and ended up challenging my brother to race to 500. He's been lifting for years, is 6 ft tall, weighs 200 lbs, and is already at 475. But he's a hardgainer and uses himself as an example that even the scrawny kids can get jacked. I'm only at 455 and much...

Low back problems, why doesn't it get stronger?

Like many, I have lower back problems. I have slightly bulging and degenerative disks in the L4-5 region as well as some muscle issues (right above belt line). 2-3 times a year I throw out my back, sometimes it is nerve related, and others it feels strictly muscular. Just terrible DOMS, spasms, and...

which would be less taxing on the body

more frequent gym visits but less time there.. not doing too much etc.. less frequent visits but hitting it harder... more sets etc... Both will have the same intensity just instead of doing more sets its split out over more visits.

Mid-20th century myths & lies about weight training still common today

I was born in the 1960s. My dad was born in the 1940s and he believed all of the lies people used to tell about people who train with weights. When I started becoming interested in weight training he flipped his lid. He told me that "weightlifters" (his generic term for bodybuilders, weightlifters,...

Whenever i take more than a week off my body has aches over neck, back , shoulders arms etc.... like I've strained it. I never feel any aches when I'm training consistently every 2nd day... only when I take a period off it begins to happen in the second week. Is this what's called delayed...

Is forearm/wrist/elbow pain normal?

I feel like the muscles can easily recover and handle more, but the soft tissue like tendons flare up, especially around inner elbow/forearm area. It's mainly my left arm. It tends to feel better after deload but gets progressively worse over a few weeks until it tells me I better deload again....

Being athletic or just having the outer shell for looks?

This observation I guess continues from a young age to an older guy. That one guy who looks amazing, but has not one athletic ability in his bone. I grew up playing sports, doing stuff, surfing, skimboarding, skateboarding, etc. Tossing the pig iron was always there but not a priority or an...

Lack of Intensity and Overall Weakness

Hello all, I'm seeking some advice and guidance from this forum. I'd first like to clarify that I'm 30 going on 31 and I decided to make a post in this section as it seems more mature and I feel like I'm 40. In my teen years up until the age of 21 I was fairly active, would spend hours in the...

Re-enactment of Epstein Strangling Himself

No racist. But the actor playing the part of Epstein looks like an Asian choking on eggroll. Nevertheless, according to witnesses this is how he strangled himself.

Hello!

Hi everyone. I've been a regular lurker on this site for roughly a year now and I just wanted to post and thank you all for your contributions to the site. The majority of these forums (and many lifting websites in general) really seems to skew towards oneupmanship and a general toxic vibe, but...

Blast from my past (lost pics)...

I don’t know, but I absolutely love it when people post pictures from when they were younger, or before and after pictures, or progress shots, or just pictures in general. In any case, I have very few pictures from “back in the day”, and even less that have anything to do with bodybuilding...so...

Pondering (MEV) Minimum Effective Volume

I've come across the concept of Minimum Effective Volume from Mike Israetel recently. I've been out of it for over 10 years and just started working out again 18 weeks ago. I've started with 10 sets for chest/back and 8 sets for biceps/triceps and was planning to add a set every 4 weeks to see...

Progress pics ... some thoughts

Hi all, Posted here a few times before. Thought that I would show a progress pic (older pic is from about a year ago and then now). I am 170cm / 76kg. I started a bulk after the old pic and then relatively quickly (within 3 months) decided to cut. Went to about 10% body fat and then decided...
