Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

3-month FIERCE!

Hi Guys, I took your advice to start Fierce and have been doing it for about 3 months now. It is great, indeed, good for health, muscles, joints etc. However, not much progress in look, though. What do you think? How to get rid off those love handles, guys? First 2 images from Sep Last 2...

Cut 8 weeks, then slight surplus for 4 weeks. Decent for fat loss?

the idea crossed my mind. cut for 8 weeks, then mass for 4 weeks or some variation of that. and I dont mean go crazy with a bulk, i mean a small but decent surplus or perhaps cut for 10, mass for 5. sort of a reverse version of "mini cuts". Has this been tried before? what is known about...

I've actually made some gains! but for what at this age?

I made a post way back in 2005, complaining a bit and probably asking for advice. Everything in that post has remained true for the following 15 years up until the past few months. But somehow I've finally made gains. At 47 years old, I've finally made a real and noticeable gain. One of the replies...

Frustrated with inner elbow pain

I am asking for help here out of frustration. I have been getting mild inner elbow pain in both arms when doing heavy dumbell incline press. Since I was in my mid 20s I've benched 110 to 115's for 10-12 reps without issue. Now at 38 I'll start getting pain in my inner elbow when putting...

Why I Workout At Home

I will be 52 years-old in a few weeks and the endorphins/testosterone or whatever released during lifting along with the music blaring in my headphones makes me feel like a teenager! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym_nJHYPSbo

Chia Seeds

I recently heard about a plant called Chia. I think it is interesting to everyone. From what I've read this is really great plant with wonderful features. For example: Chia Seeds help suppress the appetite, and contribute to drain toxins from the body. Chia seeds are rich in omega 3, protein and...

The Vacuum

My attempt at the vacuum. These are not as easy as they look, it will take much practice and losing BF will help as well, but that can until winter is over. I'm going for that old school look for next spring/summer. I did the vacuum for like 4 minutes last night and definitely feel it in...

A "relaxed" training regime at home

Some years ago I had a quite exstensive workout regime and trained for 2 full years, white reasonable success. However these days I don't have the motivation to train like that, moreover the eating regime, with meals every 3 or 4 hours, dont suit my lifestyle. But I want to start up again,...

Down and Out

I found out recently that I require surgery (on my inner ear of all things)...which is bad enough news. The kicker though, is that post-op, I can't lift anything heavier than 20 lbs., can't do any running, or anything else that is strenuous for 4 weeks. Pretty big bummer for anyone and I'm no...

Blood Pressure

I have been dealing with elevated blood pressure for a while now, but last week I went to donate blood and the nurse took my BP and it registered at 180/110, so I am going to go seem my GP tomorrow and most likely get put on medication before something explodes. Anyone on BP meds? At first I was...

Is this Too Much Volume for a Natural?

Hey everyone, So, I've been trying out high frequency/low volume training for about 5 weeks now, since I was really stalling and maybe even going backwards with a "bro split". I've made decent strength gains, but of course in this short time haven't noticed any hypertrophy. It is a 6 days a...

I’m 45 been lifting a year and trying to get up to 2x body weight for 5 x3 or 4. I’m up to 330lbs and need to get to 375. I really didn’t want to get a belt or straps because I want to increase my grip and I’m keen on strengthening my back. Is there a point where you need to get a belt. My...

Higher volume training for us older dudes?

I've heard that as you get older, training with lighter intensity for more volume can be beneficial as it allows similar gains/hypertrophy but with less stress on your body? I'm 39 halfway to 40...after lifting since my 20s, I've got some kinks here and there like anyone. Thinking of adopting...

Hello!

Hi everyone. I've been a regular lurker on this site for roughly a year now and I just wanted to post and thank you all for your contributions to the site. The majority of these forums (and many lifting websites in general) really seems to skew towards oneupmanship and a general toxic vibe, but...

How much will illness/lack of sleep/fasting affect natural test levels.

I have been feeling a bit off lately and don’t train with any regularity now as I have a two y/o who is hard work and a business to run. I got my doc to check my test levels and they came back at 565, however I had picked up a bug/virus from my child, was 20hrs into a fast and had not been sleeping...

Overtraining?

Hey guys. I'm currently 42 years of age and have been an avid weightlifter for most of my life. Not quite a bodybuilder, but I certainly lived the lifestyle at times until age and injuries began to take their toll. My arms have almost always been a lagging body part for me, stemming from...

5x5 Stronglifts - do people nearly 50 survive this? LOL...

So I'm working on gaining strength/mass (mostly to recover from atrophy due to 5 years of bed-rest), and decided to start a 5x5 stronglifts program... I'm impressed with the gains I've made so far since switching to nothing-but free-weight compound lifts, so a stronglifts program seemed the way to...
