Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Wrinkle remedies

I am going to do my first BB show in over 30 years in a few months, and being an old guy, I have some wrinkles on my belly. Anybody found anything topical that helps with that?

Why I Workout At Home

I will be 52 years-old in a few weeks and the endorphins/testosterone or whatever released during lifting along with the music blaring in my headphones makes me feel like a teenager! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym_nJHYPSbo

Who's got big without EVER getting fat?

I don't want to hear from 185lb children, you are not big, no one outside of the lifting community even notices your physique at all ;) But has anyone got really big, as in look big in clothes, probably 250+lb presuming 6' tall, without getting a bit chubby on the way? Basically what I'm...

Where did you get your info bro?

What are some good sites that have good research based articles on weight training? I love to read and was just curious where everyone else finds informative articles or studies.

Whats your max rate of muscle gain?

Hey, So I'm into my second year of serious weight training. Last year I did the F5 novice, however I bulked to fast, I was only on about 350cal.day surplus. But I gained a lot of fat and ended up spending 7 months of the year cutting. My overall mass gains weren't that good. Looking back on...

Training program

I am 41 year old, male. Started the stronglift 5x5 mid oktober 2018. By mid april this year I injured my shoulder pretty bad, the 5x5 was just to much for me, particular the over head press. I like the weight training, but I tok a brake from it untill june, so my shoulder would heal a bit....

The Vacuum

My attempt at the vacuum. These are not as easy as they look, it will take much practice and losing BF will help as well, but that can until winter is over. I'm going for that old school look for next spring/summer. I did the vacuum for like 4 minutes last night and definitely feel it in...

Ten Weeks Post Hernia Op

On August 15th I went in to have my 20-year-old hernia repaired. I had been putting it off for so long thinking it wasn't that big a deal. I had even consulted with a surgeon about 10 years ago who told me that as long as it's not bothering me physically or emotionally, I didn't really need to get...

Sugar "bulking"

Just sharing an idea I am going to try. I am long past the day where I can measure 'progress'. I have to look at my training from a yearly standpoint and even then, things are hard to see. Looking back at this past year, I essentially did nothing. My accomplishment was staying in the gym...

Stomach cramps

I have never experienced this until recently. Basically when I’m working out or when done I have gotten some stomach cramps that are EXTREMELY painful. I mean like a knife is being thrust thru me. Got one lying in bed about 3 days ago. The pain is either right below my lowest rib or way down at...

Spinal Stenosis

Anybody on here have spinal stenosis (degeneration of the bone in the back causing pinching of the nerves)? If so what path did you take - Pain managment or surgery? Why did you choose what you chose and did it help? Are you back to 100% now? After how long? I know this was a lot of questions,...

Shoulder pain and health

I started having some pretty significant pain in my left shoulder about a week or so ago. Hurts when I lift my arm overhead, put it behind my back, raise it in front of me. Unfortunately, I don't really know if I slept funny (with my arm overhead) or I strained it benching or something. The...

Sets per week graphs, current goals, bla bla bla

Just thought I would share some current goals and data as some might find the charts interesting. I am currently lifting only two days per week while I spend time on another hobby (archery).  I used to hunt and shoot my bow in a few target leagues but that was 25 years ago.  I did not miss...

Rack Deadlift

Today I put my deadlifts as the last exercise of back day, and started them from a rack, which i never do. It did feel weird to start at a standing position. Bad idea doing them this way? 17 degrees in the garage this morning, freezing my baguettes off. Last set at 245 for 6. ...

Racing my brother to pull 500

I posted today's top set on Facebook and ended up challenging my brother to race to 500. He's been lifting for years, is 6 ft tall, weighs 200 lbs, and is already at 475. But he's a hardgainer and uses himself as an example that even the scrawny kids can get jacked. I'm only at 455 and much...

Protein supplement choices

I am a 44yo male. I have lifted weights for over 20 years but had a slow down in the last 8. I am back at the gym more regularly and hoping to bulk again. I am 5'7 174ish and I was hoping someone in a similar situation could suggest a supplement in the market to help with that. Thanks

Thumbs down Potential right rhomboid strain/pull, beneath my shoulder blade.

Just so we're clear, everyone has their opinions on stretching before they work out. I 90% of the time pull a muscle when I stretch before a workout and I feel like a fool for stretching upon my arrival the gym. If I do stretch is between workout, but not before the initial workout, it never works...

Over 50 guys. How many times a week do you squat?

I use to be able to squat 3 days a week but recently my knees feel like they just can not handle it any more even rotating in medium light and heavy days. How many of you over 50 still squat 3 days a week with no problem.

Oh what’s this thread about? Looks interesting!

S’up? If you want to waste some time reading interesting facts you’ve come to the right place! Ok, here’s the first one: Tom Hanks is a bit of a crazed typewriter collector. According to the beloved actor, he’s purchased over 80 of them from around the world since 1978. ‘Why?’ you might ask....

Need advice. Getting rotator cuff surgery based on MRI from nearly 4 years ago...

Heya folks... I have a pre-surgery meeting tomorrow for a torn rotator cuff tear (supraspinatus), I'm in a position where I could really use some advice as a lot of the doctors/surgeons I've seen seem quite ignorant on this topic... A bit of a background: Had an MRI back in March 2016, and it...

Motivation Question

I know the obvious answer is everyone is different, but I started working out and changing my eating habits big time March 2019. I was rolling along, slimmed up, noticeable muscle gain, etc.. feeling great, feeling better than I have in so long. The cold came along and all of a sudden slowly I...

Mid-20th century myths & lies about weight training still common today

I was born in the 1960s. My dad was born in the 1940s and he believed all of the lies people used to tell about people who train with weights. When I started becoming interested in weight training he flipped his lid. He told me that "weightlifters" (his generic term for bodybuilders, weightlifters,...
