Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

UK gyms reopen maybe July?

No date but rumour is gyms in UK reopen July if all is well. The uk's trade association for gyms ukactive has guidance which is fairly vague but does have specific things such as workout towels banned, 3m squared per person and obvious things about cleaning....

I think I’m old

I am 47, used to be young dumb and full of cum. Now I’m beat up and fat. I think I am at a point where I can go one of two ways. I used to be able to grab myself by the bootstraps but I have very slowly faded away. I need a belief and a vision. I used to love to lift, not so much cardio...

This "Over Age 35" forum seems better

Hi, I joined a couple of days ago and I spent some time visiting the forums and reading some threads, posts, etc. in orther to gather some informations and see what's the general mood here. As much as I've not experienced any personal problem, I must say this place is the most toxic I've...

Anyone dealt with "runner's knee" or patellofemoral knee pain?

Both of my knees are now dealing with this, and there currently is no leg exercise I can do without pain once I start increasing the weight. I can do mild to moderate weight on leg extensions and incline leg presses, but once I go beyond, say, a 4 on a scale of 10, my knee pain begins. I've seen...

Finally gaining

Ate at 3500 cals for well over a month to gauge maintenance. I wasn’t gaining nor was I losing. So I bumped up to 4000 a little over a month ago and have put on 5 pounds. Started at 183ish now sitting at 188-189. Lost some definition but there has to be some muscle gain involved. Current pics...

Thought provoking questions regarding genetics

So I’ve been doing some thinking on genetics and pose a few questions. 1. 2 guys of the same frame, height and age (say 20yo) follow a perfect diet and routine fleshed out by a world class coach to a T. Rest/recovery is on point for both. Guy 1 ends up with a 46” chest, 17” arms, 26” quads and...

Spine pain while squatting

I've been sitting on my ass for a while now thanks to working from home, and just got back into lifting again. I've been progressing rapidly everywhere except my squats. I seem to get odd sharp but low intensity pains along my spine- as if my spine is compressing or something. It does not feel like...

What are your thoughts regarding going to failure?

Hey all - What are your thoughts regarding going to failure? (failure defined as not being able to do another rep with proper form). Of course there's lots opinions on the web (Dr. Mike Israetel says no need to because it will negatively impact your next workout so leaving 2 reps in the tank is...

Chest soreness

Recently after my chest workouts I am really sore. I’m not sure if it’s an over 40 thing or I need to see a physician. None of my other muscle groups are this sore after training. This soreness is even affecting my sleep. The soreness last for two to three days. Does anyone else have this issue or...

39 and just getting started

I am wondering specifically about competitions and progressing for Men's Physique. Is there a path to national and beyond through masters classes? What I seem to be finding is that to move from local to national and beyond you need to compete in an open class at a qualifier. Is that the case? I...

I had a month off, here's what I found

During the first lock down in the UK (which lasted 6 months or so) I exercised the whole time, mainly body weight exercises. I also continued to track my weight and food, and managed to maintain a mostly consistent weight. We had another lockdown in November, and with the cold and dark weather...

Stem Cell treatment this weekend

Hey all, just turned 47 this week, so definitely qualify in the 35+ group. The week before I turned the clock, I had my first stem cell treatment.
