On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

6th month of “minimum”...I dunno guys

So, I’m into my 6th month of doing a “minimum“ workout that takes me 30 minutes, 3 days a week...so 1 1/2 hours a week total. I’ve totally stopped monitoring diet. I generally eat healthier than most, but there’s been plenty of junk too. I just eat whatever when I’m hungry until I’m satisfied. ...

Do I sink $700 on home gym equipment, or wait?

As you probably know all gyms in the UK have been forced to close. I'm sure it's the same everywhere else too. I've been looking at gym equipment online. For a barbell, 90kg weights, bench and rack I'm looking at around £600 (approx $700). That's not "commercial grade" equipment but I'm guessing...

Training back and chest together.

So I finally did it, trained chest and back together, it's great! I always heard that it would be to much, especially for us older folks, but not the case at all. I stuck to 3 exercises per body part. I changed my PPL now to: Day 1 Chest and back Day 2 Legs Day 3 Shoulders and arms. I...

Poll Poll: Calisthenics squats poll2

Ok a rework of the pistol squat poll, since pistols didn't seem popular. The question is -- you got any better ideas? So, bodyweight only and simple/common household objects only. No dumbbells/kettlebells/barbells even home made concrete weights not permissible here What is the best way to...

Well I am sure everyone is in the same situation, this past monday my gym shutdown and I was making fantastic progress, lost 35 lbs in body fat and building muslcle at 50 years old. I scrambled to find weights and the only thing I found were one 25 lb kettlebell, two 45 lbs, and two 70 lbs...

All this recent talk about Maintaining - Physique Update

Several of us have recently talked about being in maintenance mode and even more so now with the COVID-19 shutting gym's down. I started lifting seriously at 49 years-old to get in shape and the first year was mostly about weight loss. The 2nd and 3rd year I was focused on building muscle and...

Anyone had a transposition of ulnar nerve surgery?

Hi All, Would love to hear anybody's experiences from getting a transposition of the ulnar nerve surgery. After dealing with pain for 6-8 months, and trying PT, self therapy, etc., I'm likely going to go under the knife. Has anyone had this surgery before? Care to share your...

Drinking Corona and Heavy Deads.......

I went to my gym today and the owner/operator had Coronas stocked in the fridge to parody this silly hysteria. This is why I love my gym! So, I dead lifted 200kg x 1 (nice hard pull) and drank a Corona.

Mini cut, or bulk for another year?

I started my journey just over 18 months ago. I spent 9 months cutting from 210 pounds to 160 pounds. I've then spent the last 9 months bulking and have reached 180 pounds today. My aim was to gain 1 pound per month, but in reality I either gained nothing each month, or just over 2 pounds. As...

Welp, looks like I will be getting those newbie gains again

I try to keep it short, I have been living in Beijing since 2014 and lifting since December 2016. Now, because of the corona virus, all gyms are closed as of 1/25/20. They can not reopen until the govt says its safe. Working from home now too. Could be another month till the gyms reopen. ...

how bad does my injury sound?

A couple of days ago, I heard a pop in my chest area near my armpit while performing the bench press. 3 days later, I decide to test it with moderate weight. There is no pain, but it feels super stiff and sore. I am going to see a doctor next week, but I'm just anxious. Will this go away or will I...

The Flintsones........

All, I have been laughed at for many years, but guess what? Now this is real, people saying no training, gym closed etc. Many years ago I learned how to train with rocks and sandbags. Don’t forget if you have a steel pipe, load-up 5 gal buckets of rocks, multiple buckets. This is not for...

Growing calves - what's your sweet spot?

The most stubborn body part for me to even show some growth has always been the calfs. I have slow twitch muscles and discovered high reps do nothing for me. I used to be a long distance runner and played lots of basketball growing up, always had skinny legs and calfs. I have found...

Fat, Older, Tired and Work in A Factory. How Do I Fix This?

I'm way over 35. I'll be turning 46 in March. I wish there were an over 45 forum, I looked but didn't find one. I hear a lot about it is really hard if not impossible to build muscle as a middle-aged man. To make matters worse I work in a factory on an assembly line, sometimes 12 hours a day. If...

Tracking Calories versus No Longer Tracking

One of the first things I recommend to someone asking how to lose weight is to track their calories and adjust until the desired weight loss is achieved. Because it works! But for many of us who were successful in losing weight by tracking it can be intimidating when the time comes to wean off...

How often do you measure test level? I faced a drop of test to the min level :o

I measured a total testosterone level (total testosterone) and saw it was on the minimum. Being only 43, it got me down. Talking to a trainer, he told me that low test level is caused by my "too fatless diet" or I am eating too clean. He noticed that I am not eating eggs at a sufficient level, so...
