On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Question Training advice needed - Making zero progress

Hi all, new to the forum. Looking for some tips as I’ve made very few gains these last few months and seem to be losing strength / size. I’m 35, got back in to training 18 months ago after spending ten years doing absolutely nothing but sitting on my arse all day. I went from a solid 12st 8lbs...

Deadlift Form Check

Hey all, I've been working my way up and progressing nicely since eating in surplus, with a new PR each week. Today I hit 275 X 5 which is more than I ever envisioned myself capable of. I have some work to do here before I add some weight though. Video in link is my second set of 4 reps. ...

Strength at 25 vs. 45

I'm 45 years old and a few months ago started getting back to the gym more religiously (4x a week) I've been lifting on and off for the past 20 years but as family and career progressed i was less focused on my workouts. When I was 25, I could Bench press 400lbs weighing 181lbs. At 45, I...

Diaphragm bulge

Hi, I'm 40 years old. I've been doing sports for 2 years. My diaphragm area is often bulging. Sometimes it's bigger than my chest. Sometimes it's getting normal, sometimes it's swelling. Especially during the exercise it is very swollen. It looks like a belly. :) ama not belly.

Advice for competing in men's physique

I am planning to compete down the road, probably in a year's time in men's physique. I have absolutely zero experience in this and watching videos/pics, competitors's physiques are all over the place in this category. Anyone with experience care to take a look at where I'm at now and answer the...

Intercostal soreness remedy?

Any good remedies? First Bulk - 8 Week Progress

I'm eight weeks into my first bulk. Trying to take it slow. I was on a 10 month cut until mid January and lost 40 pounds. I jumped about 8 pounds during a three week maintenance phase which I wasn't surprised by, given the long calorie deficit I was in. I started my surplus at 160.5 and I'm now...

Cutting during an injury?

My forearm on my dominant arm has been acting up during rows and most other pulls so for the past 3 weeks I've neglected all pulling movements. I thought it would be fine in a week or 2, now I wonder if it'll be fine at all. It has improved somewhat but even during standing ab wheel the forearm...

Eating for hypertrophy vs. longevity

I'm wondering if any members of this forum have put any thought into this. It is particularly relevant for those of us in our 30s and beyond. Note that I am not an expert in the nutrition and longevity field. My knowledge comes from listening to interviews with experts on Joe Rogan, Ronda Patrick's...

Can I still gain mass at a small surplus if I cant gain a lot of strength?

I have been lifting for a while now & I have got to a stage where I am not sure how to proceed. I have been overweight & I have been underweight. I have dieted & I have dirty bulked. I am happy with the weight I am at now although it sounds extremely light I actually do not think I look that bad as...

Sleeping and recovery

So sleeping is vital for muscle building and so, and people recommend around 6-8h per day. But does this mean straight sleep (like, going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 7 am). Or, as long as you can manage those hours of sleep into your day it's all good? Because I know about those REM,...

The Squat.

Working on the chicken legs. I've never had big legs, they are long and athletic though. I have achieved squatting weight now at 48 that I could even touch in my 20's, so getting older doesn't mean backtracking at times. I have never been strong at squatting so hitting this mark is big for...

Getting started at 45

Hey guys. Long story short, battled cancer twice, won and in remission. Grew sick and tired of always feeling sick and tired, so decided to turn over a new leaf. Started in the fall with some strength training because I was so weak (my very first bench press was 60 lbs for 5 reps!). Got my form...

I had been having shoulder pain and periodic immobility for about 10 years. I had seen different VA doctors, X-Rays, CT scans, MRI's all showing negative except for 2 bone spurs.
