Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

How realistic is to start body building at 39?

I am 39 years old. I am pretty healthy and look much younger as others for my age. I do not smoke do not use alcohol. I have same body constitution now as person here: before he started training. I want to archive same results...

Sets between meetings

Are long periods between sets bad? I have been working from home and brought out my old bench. I have been wondering if my method is hurting my gains. I will go do a set of bench press and then take a meeting for maybe an hour and then do a set of incline. If it is bad for gains why? Because I am...

Frustrated with fat loss.. keep gaining weight .. 275lbs (pic included)

40yo male. So according to 275x14-500 (weight loss) I should be able to consume 3350 calories a day and lose weight. I've been exercising regularly for 3 years with a split of full body compound lifting and cardio. I don't track my calories and I definitely like to have drinks with my...

No date but rumour is gyms in UK reopen July if all is well. The uk's trade association for gyms ukactive has guidance which is fairly vague but does have specific things such as workout towels banned, 3m squared per person and obvious things about cleaning....

DOMS for Lats

I was curious if anyone has been able to isolate their Lats enough to have ever been sore? Seems like no matter how hard I think I am thrashing my Lats, I never get that good ole recognition that I slaughtered 'em, i.e. DOMS. I ask, because I have targeted them for destruction and am having trouble...

To bulk/maintain or continue cutting

I've been training since 2011, made good gains over the years but in 2019 I was out of the gym for the most part. During this time I lost a lot of muscle and strength and gained a lot of fat. Since Jun 2020 I've started weightlifting seriously again and have gained majority of my strength back, if...

The Bench Press

Last set for 185lbs x 6. The barbell bench press gets a back rap today in the fitness world, in fact most workout advice in today's world is horrible. You need to really shift through the sands to find some sound advice. Or to make it easier just only read about old school bodybuilding. I’m...

Trouble losing weight

Quick summary: I just started testosterone therapy and I seem to be gaining weight but my caloric intake is less than 1500 per day. Long story: I was 310 and worked out with a trainer for a year. I got down to 250 but nowhere close to my goal. I suspected my hormones were off but my doctor...

Quad sweep

Extensions with toes pointing in, walking lunges with weight, high rep squats. Nothing seems to bring out that sweep. My upper legs are severely lacking. Hopefully this can’t be a genetic factor? 18.5” femur for the win lol. Any tips on getting the outers to come in would be greatly appreciated.

Alternate Exercise List While Injured / Rehabbing

Being over 35 and doing various combat sports as a hobby, I am constantly getting injured. I'm also prone to injury and at least a few times a year, I'm taken out of things for a few weeks at a time for one reason or another. Currently, I am rehabbing a wrist injury that will recover if I let it...

Back: thickness or width?

I recently began focusing on back. Not sure which aspect of my back should be improved upon at this point. Should I focus on thickness or width? I sumo deadlift, seal Row, and do weighted chins, each on different days. Squats and deadlifts have a lot of spinal loading, thus the Seal row. Doing a...

How to determine if it's muscle or fat

I'm moving to an intermediate program (upper/lower split) and increasing calories. I'm currently around 25% body fat and attempting to reduce this. There will be times where I can't add an extra rep in or add weight to the bar so what would be the best approach to determine i am building muscle...

Over 50’s bulk / cut?

As I am over 50 should I be less inclined to cut and bulk than a younger person or more inclined? (I’m talking slow and and gaining no more than 10lbs) Bonus question: Should I be more or less inclined to use intensification techniques such as drop sets, rest pause, 1 & 1/4 reps etc etc? ...

DeadLifts, Never Under 405, Update

I stared a thread earlier this year that I will never do a DeadLift workout under 405 for as long as possible. I don’t know where the thread went, but I can’t search over 2 pages. What it means is I must do at minimum 1rep with 405. I have stuck to this, but sometimes I don’t DeadLift every...

Question Training for steep hill climbs?

I’m 49-years-old and a daily golfer. I’m in moderate shape. Recently because of the virus, the golf club hasn’t been offering carts, so we throw our bags onto pull carts and walk the course. It’s great exercise! I’m an avid walker, so walking 6-7 miles doesn’t wear me out — but there are four...

Took a video from behind just to see what was going on. I never seem to feel rows in my back. Also my back is lacking in development regardless of heavy dead’s, rows and pullups. Perhaps someone can point out a form issue. dbpUwtBOdbg

Skinny fat - 174lb and 25-30% body fat - I don't know how to fix this

I'm male, 37 years old (I don't know why my profile says 50), I'm 174lb (12st 6), I'm 5'11 in height and from looking at example pictures on the internet I would estimate that my bodyfat percentage is somewhere between 25-30%. I'm weak and if I stand sideways and let my stomach go I look pregnant. ...

While doing anything half way thru the first set, my joints on arms and shoulders mostly start doing like cracking sounds, I ask google but wasn't very useful this time, maybe I didn't knew how to ask. 8-Week Intensity/Volume Experiment

While recently listening to an older Pavel podcast, I heard him say how most of the time Russian lifters are using 1/3 to 2/3 of their max reps. So even if they could lift a particular weight 9 times, most of the time they're only lifting it 3-6 times. I almost always lift one set to near failure...

Muscle building or strength training or both for thin person over 40 years old ?

Hi, I am in my 40s. Thin since young and did alot of cardio when I was young. Now I am underweight and super thin. At my age, I believe I have to focus more on strength and to bulk up as I read somewhere that it is dangerous to be thin and underweight as you grow older. Buy my question now is,...
