Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Leg DAY

Do you need a leg day ? I mean I squat 3 times/week and deadlift 3 times/week but on alternate days . I leg press 3-4 times/week also and do a couple of other leg exercises somewhat less frequently but I don't do them all on one day...I hear this common complaint that it hurts to walk for days...

Beginner program (Yes I am actually asking this question)

Hey all. Friend asked me for advice on training. Coming back after a long lay-off. I told him all the things....simple basic program which is periodized...etc. When he turned to me and asked "which one".....I realized that I have heard of the many , Bill Star, starting strength...and...

Routines with short weekday and long weekend workouts?

Does anyone have any recommendations for weight training routines where you have easy, short weekdays (where I only have 20-30 minutes to train) and longer, harder weekends (where I have a couple of hours to train)? I have tried Pavel Tsatsouline/Dan John's Easy Strength and Even Easier...

Hey guys. I plan to invest in some calipers to do this the right way but wondering what would you say my BF is based on these two pics? I need some idea of where I'm at.

Newbie

I joined the gym 6 weeks ago, i have been going approximately once a week, spending an hour on the machines. In my session i have been doing the usual upper body exercises, i tend to walk 2 miles a day so not concentrated on my lower body. I see there are loads of workout programmes out there but...

Back to the gym @40- concentrate on muscle or fat loss

Looking for some body transforming advice. Ballooned up to 218lbs through inactivity and bad diet. Recently decided to sort myself out. Cut out alcohol and some bad eating habits, hit the gym 1.5hrs-2hrs a day (threw in some cardio here and there) and dropped to 194 lbs in about a month and a...

Skin problems from lifting

Do any of you get boils from friction? I just got one under my arm, not in the pit, but just below. Doesn't hurt so much, more annoying at this point. I don't mess with it, just shower as usual and use a hot compress. Just curious if this is a common thing the longer you lift. I am coming up...

Kroc rows

Hi all. So while I sit here waiting for this bloody wrist injury to heal I am planning my workout for my return to the gym. I have happened across Kroc rows on the main site but have a question. My understanding is that they are ultra heavy dumbbell rows done to very high reps 30-40 for...

Still not losing weight .

Ok , so its been 3.5 months back at the gym . I thought I was doing well as I lost 10lbs while my weight on the bars increased. I have been eating really really well. Eggs in the morning, brown rice, chicken, green beans for lunch. Dinner time either go with chicken or a nice fat steak...

Angry, Irritated, and easily agitated after leg day?

This seems to happen to me quite a bit after leg day (sometimes after back day but not as often), I will wake up and feel this way most of the day. I am thinking it has a lot to do with the stress I put my body through on leg day, I push the squats and leg press pretty hard those days. My...

What's optimal?

What's generally considered more important? Progressive overload or volume with respects to hypertrophy? On days that I feel strong and full of energy should I do more volume, or should I stick to the program regardless of how I feel possibly due to the progressive overload scheme? I've...

Size and Weight question

What does it mean when you get bigger, but scale stays the same? I'm comparing from 2-3 months ago. No measurements, but I'm definitely bigger. Not complaining except that "bigger" is everywhere (including belly). Scale has not moved.

My 10 month progress

Finally got a wild hair to take some actual progress pictures. Photography is a big hobby of mine, so I tossed up the camera and a few lights...need all the help I can get to look good :) So my quick story: I'm 37, and was 235lbs at the start of the year, had been around that weight for about...

Progress Update, diet break, 50 yr-old legs, etc…

Like always this will probably be way longer than it needs to be but I had several things on my mind that I wanted to share so will just do it in one post. Since some of you have seen my story but some may not have a quick summary - I was overweight for years and started exercising 20 months ago...

Squats improving.

I'm up to where I left off when I was in my 20's before I stopped lifting for decades, as far as squats are concerned. I had a solid 3 reps of 225 this morning. Squat routine was: 135 x 10 185 x 8 195 x 8

One of the best decisions I've ever made

I've been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for over 30 years, but one thing I've always hated were crowds. Which is why I went to bed early and woke up at 2 a.m. to train when there aren't that many people there. I'd keep that up consistently for 4-5 months and I'd get burned out and just hit the gym on...

Testosterone/progesterone combination

My doctor prescribed this combo for me. I am a male btw. Does anyone have any knowledge of this prescription? I’ve noticed a decrease in my libido. I wasn’t expecting that. Is it in my head?

Is this a good routine?

Hi, everyone, Just finished a 4 month run on a lifting routine primary focused on the compound lifts, but I'm no longer progressing and ready for a change. 5'8" tall at 164 lbs. 40 years old, male. Approximately, 16-18% BF at this time. Looking to get to and maintain sub 15% BF and progressively...

50 today! Gaining muscle naturally after 40 (progress video)

So, I’ve hit the 50 year landmark. Instead of a progress picture, I decided to mark the occasion with an 8 year “progress” video. No perfect lighting, no cherry picking the best photo, just honest results from many angles, flaws and all. Before you watch I want to say that, while I’m proud...
