6 year progress pics (realistic expectations)

Lots of questions of the forums about “progress” (or lack of it) lately, so I decided to share mine since starting lifting again at age 42. I made a nice collage of pics that show a slow steady progress from 143 pounds to 163 pounds over a 6 year time frame, most of it gained in the first year...

Making Serious Gains after I turned 35

Hey all, I hope these videos motivate you. I made serious gains over the past year and a half. PM me if you want some additional tips or have questions in general. I started out 2016 with a 225lbs bench for 3, and basically never dead lifted on a consistent basis in my younger days. As you can see,...

Talking Fitnessmans Bicep training secrets

I wasnt blessed with big arms. I can look at weights and chest and legs grow. I am short (5'9") and have short arms with no low bicep to speak of. Over the past 20 plus years I wanted arms over 18". It was not until I learned how to train my arms properly that I made that goal. I am in hopes of...

accessory lift paused or box squats

As the weight goes up in my squats I am ever more likely to get stuck in that range after coming out of the reflex bounce to just below parallel on the way up, if I can get to parallel I can fight my way out, relatively easy. I hope to be able to post some videos in a month or so when I am set...

Hi all. I've never posted before. Just been content to read all the great info and advice posted on here. However, I have reached a point in my very short and limited lifting journey where I feel I need help. First, some background. I'm 45yrs old (172 lbs now) and have been going to the gym...

Shoulders looking for another exercise

I am weakest in the lower part of arnold presses, any idea what muscle is used in that initial press when in the curl position? What other exercise might I add to strengthen this? Thoughts or idea? Thanks

GR PL meet

Went to the state meet here in Grand Rapids over the weekend, wow made me itch to get in there. I'll definitely be doing the October meet, perhaps the Aug, but might be on vacation. My wife and I had a great time, i'd encourage anyone who hasn't gone to go. Did anyone else from here compete...

knees cracking during front and reg squat any suggestions

Hey , just started the fierce 5 novice program . I have done squats before and I can comfortably squat 130-150 lbs which I know isn't much . the issue is my knees I never notice this until I try to go above the 150 lb area if I do so my knees pop and crack loud enough for someone near by to hear it...

Keep getting injured

I have thrown out my low back a few times doing squats and deadlifts and have now eliminated both exercises from my training. My program now is basically full body, bodyweight exercises followed by 20 minutes of cardio. However, last week I finished my workout and went to go for a run and tweaked...

Question Wicked DOMS after a week off?

I'm currently doing Fierce 5 U/L and decided to take a week off as deload. I've been following the program pretty rigidly, ie. resetting where needed, resting well, eating to achieve goals, (currently eating at maintenance). Everything has been going really well, it had been nearly 12 weeks since...

Nissen fundoplication and weight lifting.

Hi all! I'm an avid bodybuilder/weight lifter who also happens to have a huge hiatus hernia, rumination syndrome and subsequent ulcers. PPI's have proved of little benefit. I have arrhythmias and terrible breathlessness at times. So, i guess i'm going for a Nissen fundoplication. The surgery...

Newbie looking for any and all advice

Hi all. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I've recently started weight training after about 6 months of inactivity. Never really trained with weights before other than in a circuit. Previously I have trained various martial arts and ran for exercise but I decided to try something...

I can't bench the bar.

Lol. I'm not kidding. Luckily, I'm annoymous here and can admit it. Also luckily, in bodybuilding, it doesn't matter what amount of weight you can lift, rather what counts is that you are lifting 'an amount of weight' that allows you perform the exercise with the required number of reps. ...

NTOS anyone else dealt with it.

Hi Everyone, been off the forum for a few years, last year I started lifting again, but it only lasted about 3 months and I got what was finally diagnosed as Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. This pain was awful and no pain killers would touch it. Basically it caused pain from the neck,...

Any weightlifting cyclists (bicycles)?

So I'm torn. Several directions really. I'm 41. My body is pretty beat up. I've spent a fair amount of time in the gym over the years with too many years of taking breaks in between gym time. I've taken up cycling and really love it. I'm really good at lifting weights and enjoy the hell out of that...

No reason to deadlift, if....

If you're on a strength program imo. Many of you know I'm running Bulgarian method by Greg Nuckols. It's light on Deads anyway, but I took them out altogether to focus on my crappy squat. I'm on week 6 and decided to deadlift. Pr that went up faster than I expected. Considering I'm high bar...

Go up in lbm first of drop bf first

I got measured at 20% BF via caliper recently and I want to get to a lower BF. I have most of my fat around my abdomen but I definitely do not look fat. It's more of the skinny fat look but I do workout pretty regularly. The problem is that I'm 170 lbs and 5'8", 38M. If I try to lose 10lbs of...
