Thought provoking questions regarding genetics

So I’ve been doing some thinking on genetics and pose a few questions. 1. 2 guys of the same frame, height and age (say 20yo) follow a perfect diet and routine fleshed out by a world class coach to a T. Rest/recovery is on point for both. Guy 1 ends up with a 46” chest, 17” arms, 26” quads and...

Struggling with what to do at the moment

Hello! As you can see, I am more of a lurker than a poster (apologies for this) but I must pick some brains. Short version, out of lockdown (currently in Tier 3 if you are UK based) and post Christmas where I always relax my eating, I find myself fatter than I would like but also with less...

I'm not sure what to do

I am 5'7 and the first picture is 130 pounds, and the second is 165. I'm 37 (I don't know why my profile says 50). My "after" photo looks worse than a lot of guys' before photos. I don't have a true before photo. I use to be 125 pounds and looked horrible. I've been dedicated to lifting regularly,...

Those Damn Rest Days. - Oldie here with a CNS question

I recently invented a new routine for myself called Road to 50. Based on Ross Edgley its incrementally compound until I get to 50 reps easily-ish - then change it up so for example. press squat lunge swing

Merry Christmas!

My gift to me was to wake up and bench for that 225. But 215 felt like moving a mountain so I stopped there, that's okay, that's a 10 pound improvement but it wasn't pretty.

39 and just getting started

I am wondering specifically about competitions and progressing for Men's Physique. Is there a path to national and beyond through masters classes? What I seem to be finding is that to move from local to national and beyond you need to compete in an open class at a qualifier. Is that the case? I...

What should I change? (probably everything?)

Hi I bought some dumbbells and a bench to use at home. I had a few PT sessions in the past where I learnt how to use some of the free weights in the gym but used to do more running than weights until about a year ago and discovered I enjoy them. I am 38 year old, 5ft8 male, weight is about...

New again?

Hey everyone I'm Adam. I started a journey here many years ago that I didn't finish. I had graves disease a thyroid disorder, and was as light as 155 and as heavy as 263. Things got worse before they got better, but two years ago, I began my transformation. I battle anxiety and so I didn't really...

Spine pain while squatting

I've been sitting on my ass for a while now thanks to working from home, and just got back into lifting again. I've been progressing rapidly everywhere except my squats. I seem to get odd sharp but low intensity pains along my spine- as if my spine is compressing or something. It does not feel like...

Looking for advice regarding creatine

Hello all - Been training for many years, but never took creatine since I've heard conflicting things regarding its safety and benefits. I know I can read about it in 1000 places, but I was looking for advice and actual experiences from guys like me (50+, advanced lifter, natural). My questions...

Abs cramping when doing direct ab work.

IDK what in Hades is going on but my abs cramp when I'm doing direct ab work. It's like a Charley Horse that will not let go and I have to stop after only a few sets. Doesn't matter if it's crunches or oblique work. Any idea what could be causing this?

Minimalist Hypertrophy Training

Hey folks, I need a little guidance. I’m 55, a little over weight (about 20-25% BF). I currently am doing the RP Male Physique template (ending week 4). I have recently switched from powerlifting to bodybuilding due to various injuries and my age. I know I can train for strength forever,...

Strength coming back quick

Pretty excited about the last few workouts. I started back the beginning of Oct.. Started my new workout tracking Oct. 5th I believe. Was going to wait and take some pics, still will in a few weeks or so. I had a rain day, no work today and was really debating on a workout since I just did...

Squat Help

Hello, I’m a novice started the Gray Skull program 2 months ago. I’ve been doing squats with resistance bands attached to a barbell. I’ve been stacking my resistance of 100lbs or more. I’m up to 120 lbs of resistance bands. The problem I have with my squats I have to much weight on my...

If you live alone or know someone that does

Please give them a call, it can be a lonely time of year. Also be aware that infectious disease can move very quickly. in 24 hours you can go from what seems like a minor illness to gravely ill. Often your judgement will be effected and you won't realize how sick you are. Many serious...

Anyone dealt with "runner's knee" or patellofemoral knee pain?

Both of my knees are now dealing with this, and there currently is no leg exercise I can do without pain once I start increasing the weight. I can do mild to moderate weight on leg extensions and incline leg presses, but once I go beyond, say, a 4 on a scale of 10, my knee pain begins. I've seen...

I had a month off, here's what I found

During the first lock down in the UK (which lasted 6 months or so) I exercised the whole time, mainly body weight exercises. I also continued to track my weight and food, and managed to maintain a mostly consistent weight. We had another lockdown in November, and with the cold and dark weather...

Chest soreness

Recently after my chest workouts I am really sore. I’m not sure if it’s an over 40 thing or I need to see a physician. None of my other muscle groups are this sore after training. This soreness is even affecting my sleep. The soreness last for two to three days. Does anyone else have this issue or...

Sands of Iwo Jima

First time in a long time since I've seen this movie. Some of these guys had some impressive physiques for 1949, especially when weightlifting didn't really take off until a decade later.
